Very well said. There is no reason why Rocky will not be as good or better than our previous HC. It is all about the talent and the incoming recruits. If the players are pumped and all the recruits stay on board, then there is no reason to doubt at all. We will continue to move in a very positive direction and not miss a beat.

This is the key: Is Ludwig > or = Borges?
All other aspects of the team should remain the same, or improved because of experience. We know the defense will be better. The only question mark is the WRs. If we don't have to rely on them on 3rd and long too much, we'll be OK.

And I'm really excited to see Ruffin on the field. And Sandifer is a good possession receiver. So if one other guy can step up, we will indeed be OK.

Agree on Escobar, but not on Sandifer. I think he has to improve on catching balls between the hash marks, he hears footsteps. Those sideline routes are his forte.

Good point on Sandifer. He HAS been weak going over the middle.

Rocky Long is an upgrade at HC. Has twice as many .500 or better seasons as the previous HC. Six times more in the MWC. It's interesting that you should say this. My initial reaction to Hoke's leaving was one of uncertainty. For whatever reason, I have come around to a view not far from your own. Maybe that's wishful thinking, but I have a hunch it's not. Rocky may very well be a better coach than Hoke, and for the reasons you suggest. I can't see how he could be less capable a HC. I feel strongly that his statement regarding SDSU as his last coaching job is accurate. That fact alone puts him ahead of Hoke. We all knew that Hoke would probably be hired by another school eventually. SDSU football has suffered many a bad break. Having Rocky Long on the staff when the current HC left was a very good break indeed. AzWm

Borges was once considered one of the best in the game and fell from grace before he came here. Ludwig has a similar story, hopefully we'll get a similar result.

I disagree. We all know that Rocky is 1/10th the coach Hoke is. Like him or not for leaving us he had that "it" factor about him. He was a natural leader and motivator which is needed as a HC. I really believe we took a giant step backwards. That being said, I think Sterk had no other options giving the timeline. He did the best that he could and what I would have advocated. However, Sterk needs to be in a serious investigation mode about the next HC NOW! I fervently believe that Rocky is not the guy to take us further. I believe that we will be stagnant at BEST - I can only hope. I know many of you myopic fans will blast me but that is how I feel and if Rocky improves next year I will be the first one signing his praises. Time will be the ultimate arbiter. And I totally disagree with you. I think the main thing I liked about Hoke was the OC and DC that he hired. His teams blew several games. I would have been very pleased if we had been able to keep Rocky and Borges even if we lost Hoke. I don't know that much about Ludwig, but if he can do the job then we should be better than last year. The defense should be better since this is Long's third year and he is bringing in his coaches to help coach the defense. Long has a very experienced staff that are all on the same page and will pull together. I just hope they can recruit. Not sure if they have enough young recruiting types on the staff, but if they win then recruiting becomes easier. I like that it appears that they have kept all their recruits and may pick up a couple more.

Ludwig certainly had successful runs at Fresno St. and Utah. I just don't see why he wouldn't do well here. He can run his own offense w/out interference, as opposed to what was going on at Cal. And look what he has to work with! Personally, I can't see us doing anything but improving on what has been started!
