Don't know about allah yous guys, but I'm feeling good about football again! The Angst is over. the stomach is settling down again. Looking forward to renewing the season tickets. After all the upheaval, we have landed on our feet. The defensive philosophy and scheme has remainded the same, thankfully. We can look forward to more improvement on that side of the ball. I'm excited about our new offensive coordinator. I think of those prolific offenses at Fresno St. and Utah and that gives me great comfort. I don't feel we'll miss a beat on this side of ball. Given proper raw materials, Ludwig can do wonders with an offense. We have wonderful raw materials. We learned the importance of having a good S & C coach. We hired a good S & C coach who's in place just in time for the guys coming back from winder break. Rocky did a great job putting a staff of veteran coaches together. It doesn't appear that any recruits have de committed. In fact, it looks like me have a shot an maybe one or two more good ones. After that great big dust up, I think we came out the other side in great shape! Go Aztecs!

Rocky Long is an upgrade at HC. Has twice as many .500 or better seasons as the previous HC. Six times more in the MWC.

I'm also feeling there's some stability now. The HC isn't going anywhere. I suspect Ludwig's going to be around a while. If he's considering being a head coach, maybe he's got a shot at succeeding Rocky. That would be incentive for him to hang around, as long as he's worthy. I think we'll roll w/ what we've got for a while. Just a feeling.

There was no reason for the good feeling to have left you. I have to disagree with you. If the MWC had announced it was expanding and couldn't come up with anything better than USU and SJSU, it would have been a national embarrassment. Cynical fans on the MWC board were already calling it WAC 2.0. However, now with the reasonable changes that are coming, it's still a good football conference - or would be if some of the other dregs (SDSU was one only three years ago) would step it up like we have. And BTW, nobody seems to really know it on this board but it looks very much like UNLV is going to be building a new domed stadium just off campus. That is huge. It shows that rather than caring only about basketball, UNLV's administration is exhibiting a true commitment to football. Also, there was debate about where to hold a conference championship game if - or should that be when? - the MWC expands to 12. Assuming that stadium is built in Sin City, it's the logical place since being indoors, LV's winter wind would be irrelevant. Anyway, I'm with mojo. I was downright depressed at the beginning of the month worrying about Brady Hoke leaving and thinking about the MWC adding a turd like USU. Now, however, I'm pumped. USU remains in the terrible conference it belongs in and although Brady's gone, we have a great replacement who is putting together a very good staff. With basketball the best ever, it's great to be an Aztec!

I disagree. We all know that Rocky is 1/10th the coach Hoke is. Like him or not for leaving us he had that "it" factor about him. He was a natural leader and motivator which is needed as a HC. I really believe we took a giant step backwards.
That being said, I think Sterk had no other options giving the timeline. He did the best that he could and what I would have advocated. However, Sterk needs to be in a serious investigation mode about the next HC NOW! I fervently believe that Rocky is not the guy to take us further. I believe that we will be stagnant at BEST - I can only hope.
I know many of you myopic fans will blast me but that is how I feel and if Rocky improves next year I will be the first one signing his praises. Time will be the ultimate arbiter.

Hoke - 1 for 3 for Bowl Games as a HC
Rocky - 1 for 5 for Bowl Games as a HC, that's 2 extra Bowl trips for Rocky and he's 1/10th the coach Hoke is?

Your out of your mind Hoke never has had a winning season without an all conference QB. Hoke was the most overrated coach I ever saw.B Hoke did not rebuild ball state he had two good season and the team went back to the cellar. your talking about the next head coach, what the hell? The guy beat two teams with winning records both service academys. Rocky used to give BYU fits, with a 10th of the talent. before Brady jumped to Ball state he never was even a coordinator. At best you need ot maybe shut up and let him coach a year before you make goofy statements.

Suggest you never start a comment with "we all know." We do NOT all know, nor do I agree with your premise. At the very least, Rocky Long is a proven head coach. Now, we shall see if this new staff meshes and can move us ahead. Spring ball synergy will be crucial. Lots coming back talent wise, especially on defense and we should feel confident they will succeed. Will Ludwig find replacements for Demarco and Vincent? If not, how does the new OC adjust? Ludwig looks to be a highly experienced guy who presumably has been in this position before. Will the pieces fit? We shall know much more in March.

Rocky has CONSISTANTLY done more with less than any team in the MWC excluding Air Force.
I think we may have actually traded up! ;D

I felt the same anxieties as mojo when we worried about losing Hoke and hoped that if he left we'd promote Rocky. I believe Hoke was an outstanding coach who knew how to put together a staff, lay a foundation and develop a program and he proved that here which worked out well for him as he turned his time at SDSU into a stepping stone toward the position and place he wanted to be, so good for him.
That said, Rocky has the same skills and history when it comes to program building and it was his work here that was so important to Hoke having the resume to move on to Michigan.
Hoke got what he wanted in the end, but more important to me is that SDSU is where Rocky wants to be and there is no other coach I'd want to see taking over at this juncture.
We will be fine!
