Never far from my conscious mind is the thought that S.D.S.U. might be forced to build its own stadium. How to finance the thing? Well, here is a novel idea. . . online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704471504574441213411789746.htmlHow about trying this at San Diego State? Here is a table of possible prices combined with hypo ethical numbers of buyers and the revenue generated by each equation: If a seat mortgage cost 10 grand and 1,000 fans signed up, we would get $10,000 dollars. Not enough to build a stadium, of course. How about $15,000 a seat and 2,000 buyers? That would mean $30,000. Getting closer. $25,000 a set with 2,000 buyers = $50,000,000 which is what one of those Florida schools (Central Florida perhaps) spent on their new 40,000 plus stadium. Not enough to build one here, but we are getting closer. What optimum combination of seat mortgage prices and number of buyers do you think we could reasonably hope to achieve? And, don't forget, other fans would still buy season tickets. AzWm

We would sure have to smoke some alumni out of the woodwork and get other fans to go for it also. We built and financed a Church in Federal Way, WA partially by selling bricks with your name on it for $1,000 and get some big givers to come up with a lot of the money. There are a number of ideas that could be used for raising money. I seem to remember that when Annapolis built the new Navy Stadium years ago, they sold bricks or plaques for about $100.

Really, 15 grand times 2 grand is 30 grand? =Bob

By the way, what do you think of this idea? AzWm I know. You got the second one right, so it was obviously a typo or a brain fart. I suppose it might make a certain amount of sense, but we'd need a program that's a lot more popular than it is now to make it work. I do think that with that sort of long-term "mortgage", there'd have to be a fair amount of study on how many legacies there are at SDSU, since I know at least a few people who are alums but saw their children go to UCSD or Cal rather than continue the tradition. =Bob

No way this works here. People won't come to the games with a $0 seat mortgage. Why would they pay thousands. I've had club level seats on the 25-yard-line for almost 30 years. If some fat cat comes in and bounces me out because he wants to spend thousands for my seats, do you really think I'll keep going to Aztec games having to sit in the end zone? Not a chance. You would have a mass exodus of season ticket holders.

I suggest that all present seat holders could be accommodated with no problem.

What I want to know is....what kind of 420 are you guys smoking? Seriously. Why not suggest to line the floor of Viejas Arena with turf and sell seats to starving students? We can even get LT to install EasyTurf.
