or how about this, don't add anybody. Not an unreasonable suggestion. I would hope that the big wigs in this conference make a very persuasive case before any new school or schools receive an invitation. AzWm My preference would be to stay at ten but I suspect TV will have a bigger say and suggest a 12 team conf. with a CCG. I don't think we have to invite comcast to next weeks meeting because they're already on the agenda waving some money in the MWC's face. Seems like the only reason to expand is money. Next week ought to be interesting.

Utah State actually has pretty solid football and basketball programs. Yes, they are in Utah though. I can't emphasize it enough. Stay out of Utah, PERIOD!!!

I'll say it again - don't expand unless the programs we're bringing in are respected. Unless they're winners they'll just drag the conference down.
The MWC is already badly hurt by our bottom feeders - we don't need more of them.
My prerequisite would simply be, "Do you have a winning record over the last 10 years?" If yes, then you are invited. If no, then don't call us, we won't call you.

Any chance that the MWC only takes UTEP to go to 11 . . . MWC 11 champ to play CUSA 11 champ . . . winner gets an AQ to a BCS game?

Hey, SJS state works. They are close to the Nevada schools and it gives us that Bat Area connection. There is money in SJ too. If they were having the BB season we are having, money would pour in. I like this much better than the Utah State talk. Take care of our own first.

If SJSU or Utah St are the best options then why rush it? They wouldn't be coming here until 2012 so we'd have until June to invite them. Why not wait and see if any other schools become available?

I think it is important for SDSU to rekindle the old rivalries between San Jose and Fresno St. It reminds me of the glory days, big games with the Spartans and Bulldogs. Bring them on!

THe old rivalries would be great and remember the conference needs to be about market share too and you can't beat the bay area for that except maybe LA . Market share will increase the potential revenue for any future tv deals. THE only thing that would be any sweeter would be bringing Long Beach State back if they still had a football program, but its too late for that now.

If Comcast demands the MWC have some sort of Utah presence, wouldn't it be better to swallow hard and invite the Zoobs back for Olympic sports only? I would think BYU hoops would bring as many SLC eyeballs to the sets as Utah State football and hoops combined, plus the league doesn't get saddled with a perennial turd football program in an isolated locale (Ever drive from SLC to Logan? Not fun.) It'd be a bitter pill to bring back the Cougs, but it just makes the most sense. As for SJSU, I just don't see the benefit. I grew up in the South Bay so I can tell you that outside of maybe 10,000 diehards, nobody in the Bay Area knows that program exists. Fresno State probably delivers just as much of a Bay Area audience as the Spartans. Also, their basketball team stinks every year and plays in a half-empty 5,000-seat arena. For football, if you can get two teams out of the UTEP, SMU, Houston triad, I say pull the trigger and go to 12. If not, stay at 10.

Problem is getting two teams out of Texas.......UTEP seems like they want to make a move. That leaves one opening. Houston may be thinking Big 12. SMU is probably on the fence. My money is now on SMU & UTEP. And SMU, UTEP, New Mexico, CSU, AFA and Wyoming would make a pretty good east division and keep Boise in the west with us.

Don't add teams just to get to 12. If Houston and SMU aren't available the MWC should stay at 10. There aren't any other programs out there that would make the conference better. It's not the MWC's responsibility to save a cal state football program.
No to UTEP. No to USU. No to SJSU. No to Montana. No to Memphis.

The MWC needs to expand to increase their "market share" for tv sets. Houston, SMU, SJSU and UTEP probably offer the best opportunities to increase "market share" for the MWC in that order. If Houston and SMU reject the MWC the most likely choice(s) would be SJSU and UTEP. USU, Montana, Idaho, NMSU, UC Davis simply don't offer enough tv sets and quality programs.

I hope you're being facetious because if you're not, you ought to be banned from posting on this board for a month for entertaining the thought of bringing back the Yners into our league. Aren't you aware of the fact that they're dead to the Aztec Nation? After this academic season, we won't be playing them in football and hopefully in other sports as well for years to come.

What the heck am I supposed to do at work for the next month? You have to admit, though, bringing back Zoob hoops makes fiscal sense, particularly if you go to a divisional split and are short a hoops team because of Hawaii's football-only status. It would feel icky, that I grant you.

I suspect we'll do whatever the TV big wigs tell us to do. Agree. If there's going to be an increase of say 750k+ from our current revenue per team, I'm certain they'll have a tremendous influence on the decision making.

The MWC might be wise to invite Comcast/NBC to the meeting on Monday to get a sense of how much money might be on the table depending on what teams were added to the MWC and simply to get their perspective on the issue. I'm sure that's unnecessary. I'm sure Thompson has already asked and already been told. I really want to see SJSU added to the MWC. However, with a very big caveat. SJSU is the oldest of the 23 CSU schools and according to a recent article linked to the SJSU board, their alumni have the 14th highest average income of all American universities. Yes, all American universities. Do you call BS? I don't. SJSU is smack dab in the middle of Silicon Valley and SJSU has a ton of rich tech grads. However, they don't give jack $#!+ to their school. Maybe it's because they all look like refugees from Revenge of the Nerds and have zero interest in football. (Think Booger and Lamar.) Or maybe it's because SJSU's administration isn't going anything to hit them up for money. I've spent a good deal of time on the SJSU board since the middle of football season because I see MWC expansion as coming down to SJSU versus Utah State. IMO and that of almost everybody else in the known world, Utah State is a complete turd. One of the handful of absolute worst football programs in the country over the last three decades. They're 13-35 in intraconference games as a member of the WAC!!! Anyway, I'd love to see the MWC put a carrot in front of SJSU. Tell them if they upgrade Spartan Stadium to put in theater seats and the like as they're discussed for years and if they increase their overall athletics budget from $18+M to more like $25M over the next several years, they get in. That would force SJSU alumni to crap or get off the pot about whether they care if their football program survives. Because if they get admitted to the MWC, it will, and if they don't, it won't. Simple as that.
