I think we can get an even bigger name. Someone proven, young, fiery, and excellent at recruiting. I really do like the efforts of Hutson though.

Hutson is already an established recruiter in California, and he is the one that recruited Kawhi, Chase, both Franklins, and probably others. If you go outside the program with the next hire, then recruits will be more hesitant because of the unknown. If you stay within the program with a coach that is a proven recruiter and a coach that all the players credit for a lot of what is happening right now then you keep the momentum going.

First and foremost, we need a plan to ensure we are able to keep coach Hutson in the AZTEC bench. We almost lost him a couple of months back.

Yes, we should just name him the Head Coach in waiting so he stays. He is young and talented and could be here forever to keep up what we have established.

I'm more concerned about hiring the BEST coach when Fish retires. Maybe Hutson is that guy, maybe he isn't.
The SDSU basketball job is an attractive one, and I would expect heavy interest in it from some good coaches.

this should be behind the scenes work by the AD- now- but not on this board that students or coaches may turn into a debate- by the way how is Melvin N. former asst . coach doing at NMS
hope some of the extra seats $ sold this year goes to JH, or Fowler fund $, hit the Alums up- while the bandwagon is rolling

I'm not a big fan of the whole "get the biggest name we can" thing, so yeah... I would be okay with that. Seems like a great guy, clearly an outstanding recruiter, and very solid coach. What's not to like.

Sure wasn't as attractive as it is now, with Viejas being built, new facilities, and MWC success.....but hey, we were able to get a champion coach.

Great coach. Took NMSU to the tourney last season. No easy feat. I'd want to talk to him, for sure.

Jim Tomey, Marvin Menzies, Gary Grant, Justin Hutson; It seems there is always someone on the staff who's "responsible" for the teams success. Maybe the HC has something to do with making the assistant coaches look good.
When Fisher leaves there should be a national search for a replacement. If Hutson is as good as advertised he might be a HC somewhere else by then, and looking to return to SDSU.
There's no sense in worrying about who the next coach will be when the current one hasn't expressed any interest in leaving anytime soon. In all likelihood there will be another Tomey, Menzies, Grant, or Hutson on the staff at that time who fans want to be anointed.

It's interesting, kids can rate their HS teachers on certain web sites and the Baersfield HS kids did not think very highly of him. But my guess is he would rather be on the basketball court than teaching math, or whatever he was assigned in HS.

Fish is 65 now...he's got maybe 20 ...maybe 30 years to go as SDSU's HC. Call me in 2030.
