BYU, maybe, especially if Jimmer and Emery keep playing the way they have been.........But I'd have a hard time taking the Aztecs over Syracuse and their mastery of the 2-3 zone. The Orange are ranked #3 in both polls for a reason, and Boeheim is as big a believer in the 2-3 zone as Fisher is in man-to-man defense. And they run it better than just about anyone in the country. Despite the uncharacteristically solid performance from range in Albuquerque, zone defenses are still the Aztecs' Achilles heel. Let's wait and see how they perform against the Zoobs before we go proclaiming the Aztecs Champions of the Big East. If the Aztecs hit their 3's they could beat Syracuse. That's an awfully big 'if'............one game may demonstrate the capability, but they have yet to demonstrate that they can hit the three consistently, which is what it takes to beat the zone defenses they're gonna see more of.

NTU, You are right about not knocking down 3's consistently.....but....if you play "D" like SDSU plays "D" you're going to be in every game. And one or two bigtime 3's from Carwell and/or Rahon will make the difference. Key point is "D" not 3's..

Absolute MONSTER game! All of San Diego will be watching this one. Every sports bar in SD will be packed. Are they taking reservations at Oggi's for this one? All of San Diego that has the MTN you mean. This game should be upgraded to CBS Regional. Its on CBSC.

No doubt about it........and this team has been fantastic on the defensive end for the last two years........three years, really. But Fisher's SDSU teams have ALWAYS struggled against a zone defense, and that hasn't changed. The only SURE way to bust a zone is to be able to rain from distance, and the Aztecs have NEVER been able to do so CONSISTENTLY. We've seen that the ability is there with this team, but not to a point where teams fear their ability to light up the scoreboard if they don't extend their defense out......at least not yet. BYU will be the biggest test of that ability to date.
