DJ was 7-11 shooting 3s on Saturday. That is better 3 point shooting than any 3 point shooting game Jimmer has had this year.
DJ's best 3 point games #1 7-11 #2 4-5 #3 4-5 #4 4-6 #5 4-6
Jimmer's best 3 point games #1 5-6 #2 6-9 #3 7-13 #4 4-7 #5 4-8
In fact, only #2's (DJ 4-5 and Jimmer 6-9) has Jimmer as better.
Note: I rate 7-11 better than 5-6 because the difference is 2-5 (40%). That difference, 6 points on 5 shots, is a plus for the team. That makes 7-11 better than 5-6.

I began thinking about halfway through the Vegas game that DJ may be one of the most underrated players in the nation, as well as in the MGC and on his own team, even.
When the buzzer went off at the end of the first half of the UNM game, I began thinking that DJ was definitely one of the most underrated players in the nation, MGC and his own team.

And 1 T.O. and played virtually the entire game. Bill, do you know what his current assist to t.o. percentage is?

That would be good for 8th in the MWC but I think they require 3 Assists per game to qualify. | Player | Class | GP | Assists | Avg | T-O | Avg | Ratio | 1 | WILLIAMS, Kendall-NM | FR | 18 | 85 | 4.7 | 32 | 1.8 | 2.7 | 2 | THORNS, Hank-TC | JR | 18 | 105 | 5.8 | 48 | 2.7 | 2.2 | 3 | GAY, D.J.-SD | SR | 19 | 61 | 3.2 | 28 | 1.5 | 2.2 | 4 | GARY, Dairese-NM | SR | 18 | 96 | 5.3 | 49 | 2.7 | 2 | 5 | LUSTER, JayDee-WY | JR | 16 | 56 | 3.5 | 31 | 1.9 | 1.8 | 6 | WILLIS, Tre'Von-LV | SR | 15 | 45 | 3 | 25 | 1.7 | 1.8 | 7 | BELLFIELD, Oscar-LV | JR | 18 | 72 | 4 | 46 | 2.6 | 1.6 | 8 | FREDETTE, Jimmer-BY | SR | 18 | 79 | 4.4 | 52 | 2.9 | 1.5 | 9 | WASHINGTON, Evan-AF | SR | 16 | 54 | 3.4 | 36 | 2.3 | 1.5 | 10 | WATKINS, Josh-UT | JR | 18 | 63 | 3.5 | 61 | 3.4 | 1 |

Ok, ok, ....you have made your point! Now, question to you.... if BYU slaps Jackson Emery (BYU's defensive specialist sorta guy...all time steal leader, yadda yadda yadda)...is DJ capable of putting up the kind of numbers he did at The Pit? I tend to believe that DJ is actually the key to a BYU victory. They will have to let Kawhi do what he does, but if they can shut down DJ....that would go a long ways to really disrupting the efficiency and effectiveness of your offense. Has anyone been able to shut down DJ yet this season?

One big difference between the Aztecs and New Mexico is our Big's passing. Total Assists and TO for SDSU's 5 bigs (KL, BW, TS, BC, and MT)133 Assists 119 turnovers Total Assists and TO for New Mexico's 5 bigs (DG, AK, BC, NE, and AJH)34 Assists 87 Turnovers SDSU bigs have 32 more turnovers but 99 more assists. The difference is a 3.09 A/TO Ratio.

Thanks Bill. That last batch of Bigs data is fascinating. Explains a lot. How do THE CHEATERS' bigs stack up?
Also, KL's A/TOs ratio is incredible. I thought for sure he'd have a realtively bad number. I guess he's so good that EVERY TO is magnified.

Has anyone been able to shut down DJ yet this season? The answer to your last question is "no." He has had some bad halfs, but he's not been shut down for an entire game, to my to my recollection. The amazing thing to me is that he has so much success at the point, but really was more of a shooter than anything when Fish recruited him. Just an incredible transformation.

I think the nice thing about this team is it doesn't matter if you shut down one or even two guys. There is always someone else that will pick up the slack. DJ and Billy have had a 30 point game. Kawhi and Malcolm, at least 1 20 point game. Chase and Rahon, at least 1 15 point game.
