My biggest complaint about SDSU: Cost of living
My biggest complement about SDSU: Excellent access to my professors. Professors at my current university are hard to reach unless you make an appointment.

I got an incredibly good education, at a very good price. Was involved in plenty of extra-curriculars -- greek life, student government, intercollegiate-club athletics, academic/major activities... just about anything you want, SDSU has it. And just to reinforce the whole main point about a college... don't let the US World & News reports ranking fool you, SDSU has MANY elite academic programs: Communication, Exercise & Nutrition Science, Advertising & Public Relations, Business, etc. Other can likely add in more.
And the athletics facilities are easily some of the best. Easily some of the best outside the "highest"-major programs. And other than alpine skiing... let's face it, sunny weather is great for practicing ANY sport year-round. Also... a little secret... if you need speed training, running windsprints in the sand is a great trick.
How's that, eastcoaster?

How are the budget cuts affecting athletics? Pretty much like everyone else. We have lost some admin positions, but football and basketball have not been badly hurt--yet. The budgets probably have not grown, but we are still OK. Our current President has been very supportive. He retires, however, in March and his replacement has not been named. Most of us on here believe the person picked will be a supporter of athletics, as SDSU is both the academic and athletic flagship of the State University system. We are not as solid as we need to be in fundraising for athletics, but that seems to be somewhat on the mend with our football and basketball success. We just received a $5M donation conditioned on matching from other donors for football. All in all, the Aztec Nation is still strong, even in the face of a nationwide economic slow down/disaster (you label it). The Fred Noonan School of Navigation.

Can some of you posters who are familiar with SDSU chime in with some of the pros and cons of SDSU as a school and the athletics programs, preferrably the basketball and football programs. I am trying to get a feel for SDSU and get some info for a kid who can be a potential walk on/student for the football team. Thanks Are you working for some website or blog? If so, which? No blog or magazine, just doing some research, mainly on the academic and athletic programs at SDSU.

Dear Eastcoaster
Currently, I work with an RN who recently left SDSU, but during her years there, she received scholarships for her participation on the woman's crew team. She explained to me that SDSU provided her with an excellent education and her time spent was worth her weight in gold. She goes on to say that SDSU athletes receive the best of tutors in any subject matter as well as their own personal trainers for their corresponding sports. She said that the relationships that she built within the crew team will remain life long, now considering many of them as part of her family.
I hope some of this information helps, but I can tell you that SDSU will remain an important entity in my life for the remainder of my years and I hope that your child will be able to claim the same from whichever campus they choose to become a part of their future. (Biology 1982) Cheers.

The party school perception may go back to the years (or years) SDSU was ranked #1 offical party school by Playboy Magazine. That was around '75 or '76. I was in the service and picked up a Playboy magazine to read, saw the rankings..... "Thats where I want to go to school!"

It's SDSU. Ain't nothing bad about it.
Non-stop parties beer and babes.
...And if you don't graduate because you can't handle your booze, then it's your own damn fault.

I think you could argue SDSU is on of the most underrated schools in the country. Truer words have not been spoken. Great education, athletics on the rise, sunny all year round.... *sigh* ;D

How are the basketball and football facilities? -Locker rooms -Arena -Practice fields/courts -etc The athletic facilities are second to none. On par with anyone else on the West Coast. The football practice field is due for replacement, which is in the works.
