I know its a little early and everyone is enjoying this ride, but I am wondering....
What will this team look like next year?
Can it still be successful in the MWC?
How will this year's success translate to next year?

It is early but always fun to look ahead.
I have told people that I think we will be very, very, good next year. Now what do I mean by very, very, good. Certainly not 20-0 at this point of the season.
There is one HUGE question. Does Kawhi Leonard come back? If he does, we are in the Top 20 again at the start of the season and maybe start out as high as #10.
We will have one of the best groups of guards in depth in the nation. I'm not calling our the BEST in nation, but Top 6 or 7. Tapley is going to be HUGE next year...We all know what Rahon can do. Xavier Thames is very very good. I call Chase Tapley our best all around player and I think X is nearly as good as Tapley. LaBradford Franklin will also be in that mix.
If Kawhi comes back, it makes the 3 or 4 spot easy, that is where he would play and we would also have Jamaal Franklin at a 3.
If Kawhi comes back, then we need one more big guy and I think we will be in the top 10 all year.
If Kawhi doesn't come back, I feel we will still be in the Top 20 and more than likely win 25 games or so.

I think Kevin Young will be better than most think and he will help replace White without too much drop off. Assuming Jamaal puts on some muscle, and Leonard returns .. we will be solid again at F with these 3. AW also in the mix.
The question is definitely in the middle? Can Shelton give us consistent minutes off the bench and can Stephens block shots and defend without having to double? If Shelton misses a few games with injury .. or we have foul trouble, we could be in trouble. Can Kevin Young play the PF/C?

Lot of inexperience on next years team, We havent gotten as much game time experience for LBF as I had hoped. Fisher doesnt feel comfortable with him and has a used Gay most of the season so far. This will be our biggest weakness. In Fishers offense, inexperience at the point is a killer.

I am a big Billy White fan, but I think Kevin Young will be better than Billy White too. I know you said it will be a drop off and it may be in athletisism, but all around play? I think Kevin Young is one hell of a player.

What about the JC transfer from Santa Monica? Is he still coming? So far no. He opened up his recruiting. I don't think he said we are totally out, but I hear it doesn't look good.

Kevin Young is a versatile small forward, but he needs to put on some weight if he wants to be effective down low next season. I watched him play quite a bit at LMU, and he's a great basketball player, but struggled with WCC bigs down low, especially on defense.

If Kawhi comes back for one more year, it will make all the difference with a guy like Kevin Young because they could both play as combo forwards (a little SF and a little PF). Also, they would have enough offense to take pressure off of Stephens to be a scorer. Steve is alittle more optimistic than I am regarding how good the team would be next year without Kawhi. But, with Kawhi, the team could again compete for MWC title and be a ranked team.

If Kawhi comes back, I think we can at least break into the Top 25 next year. If Carlwell gets another year of eligibility, I "know" we will. We also need Shelton to be healthy enough to play 25 to 30 minutes per game. But the biggest void right now is the 3 spot, it's hard to replace Kawhi, who is also often the leading rebounder.

While I also hope Young is putting on some muscle this year and comes in around 215-220, his game is built on speed and quickness .. and although he's pretty slim, he's definitely not afraid to bang underneath. Don't forget .. Aerick Sanders was the same size as Young (6'8 195) as was extremely productive for us avg 16 and 10 as a senior. And if you look at the 6 games in 2009 he played against the huge frontlines of St Marys, Gonzaga and Tulsa he actually averaged 14 pts and 6 rbs per game. Although he definitely wasn't always matched up against Samhan, Sacre or Jordan .. he found a way to be productive inside against them.
