Watching the game at the Pit was very interesting today, but something I noticed really sounds baaaaaaaad. That unreal howl of the Lobo during the game. Did you notice? It doesn't even sound good. It is sooooo bad it sounds like the ol' wolf is sick, or dying. He probably was today the way our Aztecs were pounding the the sickly team from New Mexico. They were playing just as bad as their mascot sounded, Yeeeeeeeech! Go Aztecs!!! ;D

Oh psh, if you grew up and never knew anything but Lobos, it'd be music to your ears! That said, the new sound system in the $60 million upgraded Pit SUCKS!

And their $60 million sound system was a waste!!! ;D

I noticed it right away. It is as bad as the constant Indian chants at the Braves or Chiefs games.

That howl is awful. That play it at football games as well. Sounds like a dog on it's death bed. Didn't someone name them the howling hicks on the old board?

For a renovated arena, it sounded terrible. If anybody else is wondering what the PA sounded like, go to your nearest taco shop drive thru and ask the dude to say "come on lobo fans it's time to howl" Other great gems. For 60 million, one would figure that they would at least mix in some sort of stat board. No worries though, the new video boards are placed directly behind the baskets so they have to be turned off for free throws and the players on the screen are literally smaller than if one would just crane their neck and watch the game live.

I always grow tired of the phony sounds played ad nauseum on loud speakers. The Minnesota Vikings blare an annoying horn that drives me crazy when watching one of their games (and that's just on TV). Let the crowd make the noise.

One of the all time worst was at Missouri. THAT stadium speaker and announcer were the ultimate worse you could ever conceive. NO college atmosphere whatsoever. Announcer, "M.I.Z.", mizzou fans, "z. o. u.", traveling Aztec Road Warriors, "M.O.U.S.E." was another Aztec classic memory, ta-boot.

The piped in sound effects are lame, I think most would agree. And the Lobo howl is closer to what a lobo would actually sound like howling (I'm sure some have heard coyotes/wolves etc. howl and it always sounds like they're wounded)...but it probably would be better if it didn't sound so authentic.
The Pit is an amazing arena in terms of atmosphere for a game. Honestly, it is what the fans make it. If you just wanted to watch a game there it'd be a pretty poor venue to do so at compared to more modern places (like the V).

What is really cool and excellent is the conch shell your beloved Monty Montezuma blows at all the games including the home basketball games...right?

At first I thought the wolf cry was some kind of siren they were sounding. But that's only because I am half-deaf and don't hear too well in the first place. Then I realized it was suppossed to be a wolf cry and it was somewaht comical listening to it.
