According to SCOUT this morning..........Sam Atoe, a 2 star recruit RB has committed to SDSU. He is 5'11" 206 and runs a 4.6. He is from Carrillo HS in Santa Rosa and was also offered by Sac. State. This seems like a strange commit since we are still in the hunt for Brandon Wright . It is between us and Cal and he is supposed to be visiting there this weekend before deciding. He is a 3 star and rated #68 RB in the country. We are waiting on a few other reccruits including Christian Heyward that might commit. Have others decommitted that we don't know about?

This seems like a strange commit since we are still in the hunt for Brandon Wright . You're assuming Rocky plans to use him at running back. Looking at the video, I have a feeling he's the kind of kid Rocky sees potentially playing the Aztec position on D. BTW, I know a bit about Bay Area HS football but nothing about what happens up there in Santa Rosa. Does anybody know about the caliber of HS football up there?

I wonder if they are planning on having this guy take over Petty's recruit spot at full back or if they are going to put him on defense.

We don't recruit "one trick ponies" and that will remain the same with Rocky as HC.
The kids we bring in should bring versatility to the table.

Remember Soma Vainuku, that 250 lb Tongan FB/RB/LB we were after last year? He's from the same football league as this Atoe. Oldie Out

He is a three star at Rivals. Kind could easily get to 220 and be a fast fullback, tough blocker pass catcher short yardage type.he is very athletic. Remember re lost a fullback to Sarkisian Kennels of Seattle.
I really like him he had some nice pics as well as runs,He could play linebacker even Aztec back, very versatile and tough as an old boot.

I'll wait and see what Rivals says, Scout blows for our recruiting. Agree. They have Parra as a 2012 recruit. I looked for another scource and found nothing, If Atoe is committed to SDSU they would likely put him at a LB,S or in the Aztec position.

espn.go.com/video/clip?id=5221465This kid also plays strong safety. He labels himself a "head hunter". When he plays defense, he plays the run with a linebacker mentality. Oldie Out

After watching his promo video he reminded me of Nick Tenhaff (sp). Agree with others of you.....he might be a LB/FB/S solution.

For those wondering where he might play, the espn writeup on him may give us a good clue...
"Defensively he's built like a strong safety or perhaps more ideally for a Bandit/Rover hybrid type position"

BTW, I know a bit about Bay Area HS football but nothing about what happens up there in Santa Rosa. Does anybody know about the caliber of HS football up there? I played high school football in Santa Rosa for Santa Rosa High which is in the same league as Carillo. High school ball is pretty good up in the North Bay just really underrated because all the the focus is on the South and East Bay. Just to give you an idea of some of the players that come out of there, I played linebacker with Koa Misi who was a three year starter at Utah and was the 44th pick in the draft and is starting as a rookie for the Dophins. Ray Mataluga the linebacker from USC who is now in the league is also in the NCS (the conference that Carillo is in) and there are usually 2-6 legit DI recruits from Sonoma County. On top of that you have SRJC one of the best JC football programs in the state up there and tons of kids go play there and go on to play DI so I would say high school football in the North Bay is pretty legit. If Long and the rest of the staff are recruiting him I would say is pretty good. I also agree that he is probably being recruted more as an athlete that they can redshirt and plug in somewhere later.

Am thinking he's definitely a great player as either FB or 'Aztec'.
Outstanding... and continues the theme of bringing in TOUGHNESS to the program.
