Was just pondering implications of some of the Big XII teams possibly joining our happy little gathering of overachieving underachievers here in the MWC.
Say KU shows up to play ball, is it the death of The MWC Tourney being played annually at the T&M? You have to figure that they aren't going to sit still for those kinds of shennanigans.
Or, as I heard complained on one board: "I can hardly wait to stay up until 1 a.m. watching my team in a MWC game". Are we looking at least some -- or a substantial -- decrease in Aztec night games in order to appease the midwest viewership?
I think it's interesting the ways, both big and small, the pending sea-change is going to impact the way we watch sports.

Hmmm...good question.
You would probably see a push to the Pepsi Center in Denver.

Hmmm...good question. You would probably see a push to the Pepsi Center in Denver. Oh, Lordy Lordy! In front of a crowd of several hundred player's moms and dads. What a dud that would be --- again.

I hope you are both right...I lived in the Denver area when the tourny was there...and you're not far off by saying there were a couple hundred people there.
However, we are talking about "fan bases" now. And when it comes to comparing CSU and Airforce locals to Jayhawk fans, and KSU fans with Colorado in the mix...you would get more.
But, I'm with you...I hope it would stay in Vegas. Just wondering how loudly their fan bases would cry if they had to travel to Vegas. (But..it's "Vegas"? How much would they complain?)

I could see a rotation between Vegas, San Diego and either KC or OKC (just to appease the new midwest schools).

The UNLV Invitational (The MWC Tourney) would have to rotate. That is my guess. Or arrangements made in Las Vegas to play the game at a nuetral site with 18,000 or more seats. Football game times? I think those would have to be changed too. Although 5PM PST starts would seem to be ok.

The tourny needs to be rotated with Cox in the mix. UNLV makes it to the finals every year since they are playing at home. Could you imagine if the tourny was at Cox every year? We would win it most of the time.

We already win most of the time.

Unless they have no other option but to join a non-BCS conference, as Kansas, K-State, Baylor and Iowa State will if the raiding happens. These schools would constitute the Big 12 if the 8 teams leave, and they don't qualify as a conference, let alone a BCS conference. If expansion goes down on a large scale, the Big-12 and Big East are dead. These teams will be looking for a non-BCS home.
Did you read the article about Bill Self crying about this scenario? He really wants Nebraska to forego $10 million a year to bail out Kansas. Right. I can't see any school doing that in todays atmosphere of greed.

Then they'll start their own non-BCS league with the best of C-USA and the MWC top three. They aren't gonna accept playing the likes of UNLV. TCU may leave, but I don't see BYU/Utah leaving the MWC to join a watered-down Big 12.

The ultimate irony in all of this is that if schools like KU lose the goose that laid the golden egg (BCS) decide to sue the new BCS alleging Monopoly/Antitrust and end up winning. This is what a cartel does, decides who is "in" and who is "out" in terms of the big bucks. We've been whinning about it for some time now, and wouldn't it just be poetic justice to see one of these poor little schools up and file the lawsuit that killed the BCS? I'd be laughing all the way to my television set. The Fred Noonan School of Navigation.
