Do any of you remember how Fred Miller back in the early nineties got the San Diego chapter of AGC (Associated General Contractors of America) to donate/voluteer their time and resources to build new facilities for the athletic department? That helped save SDSU alot of money.
With SDSU looking at using some of Fowler's generous donation to upgrading the football facilities I wonder if the administration at SDSU has thought of possibly doing this again? It would be good PR for the San Diego chapter of AGC, and it would help save some coin for SDSU which could then be possibly used to further increase the salaries of the football coaches. Thoughts?

In this economic climate? Good luck with that one.People want to get PAID. Not necessarily. True, there are alot of people in the construction industry that have been without a job one or two years. AGC has contact info on alot of these unemployed construction workers. There is no light at the end of the tunnel in construction...I know because I am in it. Just a thought, if SDSU got AGC involved and AGC convinced some of these unemployed construction workers to volunteer their time, this publicity might just open some doors for them to find work. I am not saying it would but it might. It might be better then just waiting at home hoping for a phone call. It could be a win-win situation for everyone.

Your suggestion/idea is premised on there being construction jobs out there. There isn't.The only ones you might convince are those tradesmen who have retired, but for those who have been unemployed, they need to put food on the table and make the mortgage.

I got access to the people from AGC, so if they need to know who they should contact at AGC I can probably help with that. I was just there yesterday...

The AGC was just tremendous in building that facility. The only exception that I'd take is that it was Al Luginbill that did all the work rather than Fred. He was an Assistant AD anD he begged, borrowed and stole most everything for that facility. Al's goal was to be AD when Fred retired, but then Fred begged him to take over the football program for a few years as we couldn't afford a coach. Al's promised AD job evaporated, but his work with the AGC yielded one he'll of a nice facility for it's time. The Fred Noonan School of Navigation.

Christ, I do not believe the cynicism - I work for a small conservancy in Lakeside. We have upwards of 300 volunteers and a mailing list of around 3000 people. We have an old house on site, dating to around 1907, that we moved there and we have professionals from all sorts of construction trades who will put in the work to restore it for a field research station and offices for our conservancy.
The problem is those of you who denigrate volunteerism are the people who always find a reason to not volunteer - simply put, you see no higher use of your life than sitting on you asses instead of giving something back.
Well sorry, but Monday is King Day and I'll be at work, even though I don't have to be there because I believe there is something more important in life.
If your mileage varies, that's fine because I believe every person makes their own decisions and as long as those decisions hurt no one they cannot be wrong, but you might want to consider that maybe, just maybe, it doesn't all come down to bucks.

There is no light at the end of the tunnel in construction...I know because I am in it. Yeah, and be careful because if you see a light at the end of the tunnel, it might just be the Tax Train headed right at you to run you over... Let's see, ten percent sales tax, 15% FICA tax, 8% HIT tax, 35% federal income tax, 10% state income tax, 7% unemployment tax, 28% workers comp insurance tax, 15% liability tax...do you want the other 35 taxes?
