If you get the daily Sporting News Ezine the Aztecs are featured today.
It's a pdf so the text can't be copied. Don't know if it's in .html somewhere.
The Aztecs are #91 (ahead of Utah State and behind Troy). Author says Hoke is "turning this should-be power into more than a MWC doormat."
They say we'll be better but still have the same 4-8, 2-6 record. We averaged more rush yards than just 4 DI teams (ouch). Schedule is too tough with games at Mizzou, BYU and TCU.
Prove 'em wrong, red and black!

I am confident we will at least hit the 500 mark this year.

I looked at the bottom of the article and saw they rate our QB a C+ (that would be the same guy Phil Steele rates #38 in the entire country) and our receivers a B- (Steele rates our wideouts as #10 and #62 in the country and our TE as the best in the conference) and after seeing that I didn't even bother to read the text. (Matt Hayes just hates SDSU for some reason.)

I am confident we will at least hit the 500 mark this year. I've been burned too many times to be confident about anything. The way I look at it: We return 16 starters from a team that finished 2-6 in conference last year, including four straight losses to end the year. Two of those four losses were to Wyoming and UNLV, wherein we blew double-digit fourth quarter leads. We either quit or we were out-toughed. Shoot, in the Wyoming game we gave up 24 fourth quarter points at home to lose it. Also note last year our only two conference wins were (1) by three points at home to 1-11 New Mexico, and (2) over a Colo. St. team that finished 0-8 in the MWC.

All that is history and does not indicate one thing about 2010. Many new players emerging. Sure, you can look back and say we'll be 4-8 again based on that. I think we will be marginally better, thanks to the emergence of a new OL that will give Lindley time to find perhaps the two best WRs around. 6-6 is doable if we get some competence up front

The Sporting News is a Wrong Coast honking rag that doesn't have a clue about any athletics on the Left Coast.

I'll make my predictions after the season is over.

I'll make my predictions after the season is over. Sounds like you're a member of the Procrastinators Club who release their annual predictions on December 31st for the year ending. BTW, they might be late in releasing their predictions, but many are right on the mark. ;D

Can't blame the rags for predicting we'd suck again. Why shouldn't they?
I, however, think that our returning players will continue to improve under this staff and not stay stagnant. Especially Lindley, now that he's getting used to this offense and what Borges/Sipe want. I also think the OL competition and depth will improve things up front.

The players should be more comfortable with the system after a year. Add to that the demands this staff has put on the players in the offseason and for the first time in eons, we'll have a team in shape and won't pack it in.
But the big question still remains. Overall, are these players good enough to get beyond 6-6 giving their maximum effort? They better be because for the most part they'll be here for 2011 as well. After that, Hoke's recruits make the transition complete.
I think the highest we ever got in these rankings was in the high 40s under Tollner. Hoke has a long way to go.
