Is this accurate? Says TCU leaving this summer - I thought they were leaving AFTER next season.

Is this accurate? Says TCU leaving this summer - I thought they were leaving AFTER next season. It's one of a number of inaccuracies in that article. Another is that there has been absolutely nothing said about Tulsa coming to the MWC. I suspect the only reason that came up is that Tulsa kicked the crap out of Hawaii in that bowl game a couple weeks ago. Also according to a Wyoming poster on the MWC board, although Utah State fans have been falling all over themselves to assert rumors about how their school is putting together some sort of magical coalition of big money alumni so that the MWC can double its TV revenue by adding them, this article is the first to hint there is anything to that whatsoever. USU's football record the last 10 years: 31-85.

Houston and SMU would give the MWC the best shot at an AQ. But AQ may be irrelevant in a couple of years if ESPN or Mark Cuban or Fox come up with a playoff format. I'm betting playoffs become a reality in 2014 when the current BCS contract with ESPN is up.

I'm betting playoffs become a reality in 2014 when the current BCS contract with ESPN is up. The demise of the BCS would not be a reason to fail to offer Houston and SMU. Assuming a playoff system is implemented - and I don't think that's going to happen* - you would have to think some sort of RPI formula would be worked out. So playing those two schools as opposed to two terrible WAC schools would enhance our RPI. * A playoff system isn't going to happen because the bowls still control the money and even though they could potentially earn more by being part of a playoff system, there are potential downsides to them. The biggest downside is the possibility of losing control of the fiefdom they currently have and becoming nothing more than a cog in a playoffs wheel as is true of the basketball arenas for the Big Dance.

The AQ is a pipe dream for the MWC lets get real once TCU, BYU, and Utah were taken. We are worse than the MWC was (still better than the WAC but was but that isn't saying much). The only way SDSU is going to be in a AQ conference is if they get invited to the Big 12.

SMU, please.
And if the CUSA could take New Mexico off our hands, that'd be a great addition by subtraction.

The AQ is a pipe dream for the MWC lets get real once TCU, BYU, and Utah were taken. For the current 4 year evaluation period this is partially correct. TCU still counts towards the MWC's evaluation as the Frogs aren't leaving until 2012. Losing the Utah schools (especially Utah) really hurts the MWC for the current evaluation period. Worse at the top for sure but there is more balance to the conference. Before it was 3 dominant teams and everybody else. Now it will be 1 dominate (BSU), several good (SDSU, AFA, NEV, HAW), and some average to bad teams (with Fresno having a shot to be solid every now and then). I still feel the MWC will be better than the Big East and on par with the ACC. Adding Houston and SMU won't boost the top end but it will make the middle more competitive. Probably. Pac-12 is a long shot. I also think the Big-12 getting broken up would leave the possibility of the top MWC teams merging with the remaining B-12 teams which could lead to AQ status.

if the CUSA could take New Mexico off our hands, that'd be a great addition by subtraction. That's not going to happen but it sure wouldn't bother me if it did. As I've said before, football is just an afterthought at UNM so there's no reason to think that school won't always be an anchor the rest of us are going to have to pull in order to achieve AQ status.

Why couldnt they expand the bcs by adding 2 more conferences equal to 1 game? I would suspect the coalition could make it financially feasible?

IMO would rather have schools from Texas ,then Utah , do we get much from C state, WYO, or NM ? As pointed out to some USU fans on the MWC board, the best player they've had the last four years was QB Diondre Borel from Walnut Creek. So he would be a reason to think SJSU would be a better add than USU if SDSU is looking for football talent. And BTW, unlike the state of Colorado, I can't think of a single Aztecs starter from Utah, can anybody else?
