Oldie Out When u live in the LA area u get more money from the military to live up there. I have heard of people doing it all the time plus in the military when u travel it counts toward the 8 hour day. so they get to leave early all the time. thats what i was told when I was a working on a Navel site.

You will be hard pressed to find any sort of program where you get to count commute travel time as your work day in the Navy. It might happen on occasion, but is not policy anywhere that I know. You get different housing allowance and COLA depend on where you are stationed. www.military.com/benefits/military-pay/cost-of-living-allowanceSome people choose to commute because they own a home someplace and don't want to move their family.

Incorrect. You get your housing allowance based upon your base/station, not where you live. Further, you are salary, not hourly, so your workday is your unit's workday, not some special plan for commuters. If you work a shift, such as in a operations center or the like, your hours are based upon your shift. Still, on rare occasions, individual cases can be worked out but in my 25 years of service I've never seen that made for commuters. Usually it is oriented at single parents and day care hours, etc.
