All the Global temperature models used to "prove" global warming assume that nothing absorbs heat except the atmosphere. This assumption was considered valid only because NASA withheld data about temperature on the moon. The moon according to the theory should be hot when facing the sun but cool rapidly (instantly) to very cold when facing away from the sun. But the reality is something totally different. The moon cools over time because the surface absorbs heat when it is facing the sun. It absorbs enough that it cools the entire time it is dark (14 days). This happens on the moon so it must happen on the Earth. Climate models have been written with a "black body" assumption. This means they don't account for any heat retention from the ground on the Earth. If this new data is programmed into their models without changing their assumptions about the atmosphere, they would show incredible heating. The only thing that can be changed to not show this heating (which isn't happening in the real world) is to reduce the effect of green house gases.
One might ask why NASA would not come out and correct the record. The answer is money. Their budget was safe as long as Global Warming was an issue. Just like Scripps Institute of Oceanography which suddenly found the AGW religion when the Navy cut its budget.
There have been a lot of minor cuts to the AGW true believers over the past year and a half. But this is a death blow to AGW. They may not know they are dead yet but this new data will turn scientists who are not religiously invested in the cause.
