collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1164970Ronnie Hillman was a 3-Star recruit. Gavin Escobar only earned a 2-Star rating out of high school. These guys had stellar freshmen seasons earning Second-Team Freshman honors from Rivals. Which of our 3-star and 2-star recruits from last year and this coming year will be the next Ronnie Hillman or Gavin Escobar? Kudos to these guys!

I know it's supposed to be an honor, but I call bull. How can you place Ronnie on second team behind guys who are behind HIM in stats? Ronnie was by far the best freshman RB this season. End of story.

End of story. I don't like the elitest crap in the SEC but the fact was Lattimore carried a pretty bad o-line to 1000+ plus yards, he broke tackles left and right, I think he was the best RB

Off the top of my head but I believe we had something like 900 yards rushing AS A TEAM last year. Ronnie outpaced that by 600 yards by himself. Add in 18 touchdowns and you have the best running back in the country IMO. Not to mention breaking the record of a future NFL hall of famer that has stood for almost two decades.

Lattimore did it in bigger game against better defenses both are great but I think Marcus had a tiny bit better season plus he made a bigger impact in the passing game

There's no denying that Hillman had the most yardage of all true freshman this year. But there is no one outside of SDSU that would put Hillman as a first-teamer over Lattimore. That's just the way it is.
Like the poster said above me, he played a much larger roll in the passing game out of the backfield, and was also a better pass blocker.

When I was recruited and offered by usc, I received a five star ranking. After the visit, and because I always thought the campus was in Newport Beach, I was too afraid of the area where the small campus of usc is located. So when the Aztecs offered, for some strange reason, some one removed four stars.
I wonder if the banks do that with your money.

I hate to say it but I'm ok with Lattimore getting first team...the kid was such a stud he made Steve Spurrier actually run the ball this year.
Total Yards: Lattimore - 1562 (with one game left to play) Hillman - 1600
Total TDs: Lattimore - 19 (with one game left to play) Hillman - 18

I actually did some research on the defenses SDSU faced compared to the ones USC faced. Usually, in spite of all their hype, SEC teams have a load of patsies on their schedule. And while USC played their share of bad defenses (Furman, Vandy, Troy, etc.), most of the teams they played were in the top 50 defensively, with 5 teams ranking in the top 30 (or very close to it, e.g., Arkansas at 33).
By comparison, the cream of SDSU's schedule was better than the cream of USC schedule. TCU, Utah and BYU ranked No. 1, 20 and 25, respectively, in national defense. But the middle and the bottom of the schedule were soft, defensively. SDSU played 6 teams ranked 90th or lower, and 4 teams in the triple-digit realm. UNM had the second-worst defense in all of college fball.
By contrast, USC didn't play a single team with a triple-digit defense. Nine of their games were against teams with top-50 defenses (if you allow for Auburn at No. 54).
Finally, if you look at performance against top defenses, Lattimore shines when compared to Hillman:
Fla. (No. 9): 212 yds. Ark. (No. 12): 93 yds. Clemson (No. 23): 48 yds. Ga. (No. 30): 182 yds.
Hillman:
TCU (No. 1): 54 yds. Utah (No. 20) 58 yds. BYU (No. 24): 72 yds. Mizzou (No. 41): 235 yds.
So, yeah, I'm OK with Lattimore on the first team.
