Oh MAN!!!! What a play?! Lindley had two guys wide open in the end zone. The safeties began the play at the 10. One of them wasn't fooled initially and took a few steps backwards. Then, when Sullivan was in the middle of the pile and on his way down, he charged towards the line. He hadn't taken two steps when Lindley let the ball go. Amazing play. At the game, the Navy fans literally started to cheer thinking they had stopped us. Lindley sold that play amazingly, obviously, reminiscent of the Utah State play. But this was a different formation and the players can to different places. Incidentally, Hillman who started in the backfield just about beat Escobar who started on the line of scrimmage to the endzone. This play DESERVES a thread of its own!

That play sold me too. I didn't know it was a fake until I saw the ball in the air halfway to Hillman.
That was a gorgeous play fake carried out to perfection.

That play was "Top 10" material for sure. Don't know why it wasn't on sportscenter's.

That play was "Top 10" material for sure. Don't know why it wasn't on sportscenter's. Because the camera man was so faked out that there was not any good video to show. Later in the night on Sports Center, they edited the play by adding a yellow arrow pointing to Hillman to aid viewers in seeing the play develop from the start.

In the endzone shot you can easily see how completely Navy bit on the fake as they just Piled on Sullivan.
Hellova play

OK. So before the start of the quarter I said to my buddy sitting next to me that it's 3rd and 1 from the 30 (or whatever it was) and why would we not send someone into the right endzone on playaction? Even if the pass is incomplete we'll get another chance to get the first down. And what happens?
That's pretty much verbatim. Any other offensive geniuses like me have that same feeling? I'm going to wager about 10,000 joined me in their wizardry. Or Borges has the stands bugged.
And boy did Ryan ever sell that fake. They had Brandon ten feet in the air; that middle was just packed. Exciting as hell play.

Was anyone not fooled on that play? I was expecting it and I still got fooled. Awesome call and execution.

When I saw Sullivan directly behind Lindley and Hillman to his right, I told my friends that the Aztecs would send Sullivan over the top, but I felt that two yards from the first down was too far to run that play. The play action totally faked me out. Once Lindley wound up to throw, I spotted it, but I would have been beaten badly on the play.
After the game I was able to pat Al Borges on the shoulder and say, "Great game plan and play calling tonight!"

Heck yes! It had to have been the best play action I've ever seen. It had to have been for BOTH D.J. Shields (it wasn't Escobar) and Ronnie to be WIIIIIIIIIIDE open. The corner even saw Ronnie coming out of the flat, but he just ran right past him.

I actually said to my brother "He didn't make it." I don't think I realized it was play action until the ball was in the air!

We ran the same play against Utah State and the pass went to Shields, who was similarly wide open for a TD. Gotta find somebody who can jump over pile next year like Sully did in 2010 and with Lindley returning with his ability to place the ball on his hip, it should be available to us a couple times next year too.

The Utah State pass went to #87 Bryce Quigley. Here he is right before taking off to catch the pass. Note the ball in Lindley's right hand.

I just Facebooked that pic! After the TD, I kept making the "fished in" gesture of the hook in my mouth because we were ALL fooled ... except the 2 wide open receivers in the end zone!

Listening to the re cap of the game on the radio on the way home, they re played Leitner's call and even he said "I got faked right out of my microphone!"

It was the exact same play we ran against Utah St. early in the year -- except the TD went to Escobar, I believe. Everyone in the stadium was completely fooled.

Actually, it was not the exact same play. Against Utah State, it was Quigly that caught the pass and he started on the left side of the formation, and slipped out to the right sideline on the play action. Against Navy, Ronnie slipped out to the right and Escobar went straight up the field.
