Steele has us finishing fifth in the conference as the #78 team in the country. (Lindy's also has us fifth, Athlon sixth and the Sporting News eighth - Matt Hayes has always hated SDSU.) Other Steele's features:
1. He rates Lindley as the 38th best QB in the country (Dalton is 10th).
2. He rates VJ Brown as the 10th best wideout and Sampson as the 62nd best.
3. He rates Iosefa as the 28th best center.
4. Although he has Stahovich as the MWC's best punter, he doesn't have him as one of the 20 best in the country. (A mistake IMO.)
5. He rates Umuolo as the best TE in the conference.
6. He predicts we will play Nevada in the NM Bowl.
His comments: "It's rare when a team on my Most Improved List does not have a winning record the next year and even rarer when I use them a 2nd straight season on that list. The Aztecs fit the bill. At one point last year they were 4-4 but dropped their last 4. This season they are tied as the most experienced team in the MWC (16 ret st'rs), in the 2nd year of their new coaching staff and last year they were -10 in turnovers. QB Ryan Lindley is now in his 2nd year of the new offense and should be better adapted and they have outstanding receivers. Rocky Long's defenses are always tough and I will call for the Aztecs to achieve a winning record."
Warning: Although Steele predicted we would finish eighth a year ago, before that he was rather notorious for being overly optimistic about SDSU.
