What a slam for Jamaal last night. So athletic. I watched him see the ball turned over, hit the wing on the right at an angle (textbook) and cut to the basket.
Jamaal knew one thing...He had a dunk coming off the wing (5 seconds before it happened)....IF someone could get him the ball.
Enter Labradford Franklin. That was a fantastic pass by LaBradford for the dunk and something else...The pass was done by his off hand off the dribble. Most guards have to transfer the ball to their strong hand to make a great (or even a good pass). LaBradford did that pass with his left hand (off hand) on the run.
That is one hell of a play for any point guard on a break...much less a true freshman.
One hell of a pass LaBradford...And kudos to Jamaal for his hustle to get in position for the dunk.
Plays like that don't happen out of no where. A wing player has to bust his ass and take the right angle....A passer has to have the ability to read the play and put the pass on the money.
Both were done....By true freshman.

Comeon steve, already been posted about all day in another thread About LaBradford having the vision to make the pass? And that he threw it with his left hand (off hand)? I haven't seen anything about the pass. I have seen fans lauding Jamaal for the dunk. This thread is not about the dunk. It is about the pass.

Yes and on the replay you can see that LaBradford saw it from almost the time he got control of the ball at half court. He knew what Jamaal was going to do and vice versa. Nice to see.

Thanks for bringing it up Steve. These type of things often get overlooked, and not brought up. It was a very athletic play by both.

Anybody else sick of our PA announcer NEVER giving credit to the player making the assist? In many cases, the awesome play is 100% due to the player making the pass, but our over-energetic PA announcer always just screams the name of the guy who put it in the hoop. This play is a pretty good example. LaBradford should have got a mention.

Internet Troll says:
"Not every dunk has a pass set it up. Some times a guy steals the ball and goes coast to coast by himself."
He follows with:
"You could say every great alley-oop dunk is started by a great pass, but that wouldn't be true either. Great dunkers and leapers can save bad alley-oop passes and get them into the hoop on their skill alone."
The internet troll is right, but he's still a dick.

would be nice if the half time stats included ASSISTS- and Blocks Could also show the Assist of the Game( sell the rights to a sponsor $$$$) and the Block or Rejection of the Game- Slams are highlights but would be nice to give credit for the other phases of the game.

The internet troll is right, but he's still a dick.Oh for sure...A pass does not lead to every dunk....But in the case of a steal for a dunk, the great steal (not the dunk) was the major play. It proceeded the dunk. Hey I love dunks like everyone else. Nothing brings you (and everybody) out of their seats like a great dunk. But most every dunk is proceeded by a great play of some kind that made the dunk possible. Just trying to give some credit where credit has been ignored for quite some time.

I love our PA announcer so I would never criticize him...As much as I understand where you are coming from, is it practical to ever mention the guy who gives the assist??? I think it just really isn't that easy to mention both players...Do other PA guys do that in other arenas?

I think LB traveled on that play by the way. I slowed it down and counted 3 steps from the time he caught the ball after his last dribble to right before he let the ball go. It happened so fast that no ref would call it though.

Over the years ( since the 60's), many PA announcers in college and pros would make the call like this... ***Basket by Billy White from DJ Gay*** It was usually done on all obvious assists and especially real nice passes/assists.

And in this particular case, he could get creative and scream "A Franklin combo - LaBradford to Jamal!" But that would be asking a bit much, LOL. All he needs to do is say "Player X from Player Y" at times when it is a really nice play. Other PA announcers do it all the time.
