The number of similarities to our Government right now is eerie:

Pushing and passing laws before the opposition increases its power in the next session, using crisis as an excuse to collect and abuse power, using executive power alone to enact policy normally left to the legislature, in transition to a socialist state, Orwellian double speak - a dictator saying he is building a "new democracy" (Obama's examples of Doublespeak are far too many for here - see Google), a Social Responsibility Law looking a bit like the "Fairness Doctrine" or "Localism" being bandied about by those that want to curtail conservative talk radio.

Cannot say I agree with everything Chavez has done in Venezuela however to understand why he is doing what he is doing is to understand the history of Venezuela. Backlash of many years of right wing dictatorships. South America countries have some interesting history. Visiting South America many times over the past years I understand how they are now trying to keep outside influences from taking over their country and natural resources. I appreciate the culture and the people who reside in many of the countries in this region.
