There were negatives for sure. Bigs continued to struggle and halfcourt offense struggled. That being said I also saw lot of positives.
We were good in transition/secondary transition. Liked the passing/relocations and decision making in transition. Thought BJ Davis/Boyd both played very well. Compton between his injuries/cramps showed positive flashes, thought he was best of all of our bigs.
Keep in mind we did that with a clearly physically effected byrd and compton dealing with his problems+ no reese. See lot of signs of a very good team

I have to agree. I know we lost by 13, but that was a VERY good team, one we'll see make a deep run in March and we were able to make them play our game. Kept them to 20 points under their average, and if some of those chip shots we missed were to fall...or if we didnt send them to the line 31 TIMES...we have a different game.
Also, our young guys got an up close look at what elite hoops looks like and the level they need to be at. This is critical for the development of Compton, Taj, Goon and BJ...yesterdays loss will help us win in February and March.
I love these young Aztecs!

Boyd/Davis/McKinney are quite the triumvirate of ball handlers/lane drivers/shooters and I already forgot the names of the guys we had last year.

I like a lot of what I saw last night. We have really good guards, and that's without Reese. So even better when he returns.
Our wings are not as impressive, but Byrd should be good. Though Taj is technically a guard, I see him playing some as a wing as a good development. Reese as well in what would essentially be a 3 guard lineup.
Our bigs are an issue. Heide is concerning. At this point we can't count on Demarshay. Compton might be our best big within the next few games. Heck he might already be, we will see.
Magoon is like the $64,000 question. He plays like a wing but often ended up at 5 on D last night. What will he give us and what does that look like? A huge factor this season. It's not his fault he will be such a determining factor. He wouldn't be if we had a reasonably good, experienced 5. But we don't so it is what it is.
Clearly this team isn't a top 15 team. But can they develop enough by MWC play to be the best team and win the Conference championship?
Also, somehow grabbing 2 wins in LV next week would be huge, losing all 3 would be huge in a bad way.

Agree that if we don't win at least one of the Vegas games and then sweep the rest of our OOC games, we'll probably have to win the MWCT to get into the Dance. The MWC is just too deep this year for us to run through it with a great Conference record. I think Oregon is our best chance. If we lose the first two games we probably play and beat Notre Dame unless there's an upset on the other side of the bracket. Notre Dame is #52 KP so they're not too bad, better than us. If we were to beat Oregon, I'm not sure who we'd play. Could be A&M or any of the 3 studs on the other side: Alabama, Houston or Rutgers.

If we can keep the nucleus of this team together for the next 3 to 4 years sky’s the limit.

Dutcher and staff do such a great job in recruiting even in this crazy uncontrolled and unfair environment. But to expect him to have to rebuild the entire roster every year is a big ask, any good player with eligibility left is going to be hard to retain which is so unfair. But I guess to quote the famous saying, "it is what it is"

I was glad to see that they replaced big bodied guys that should be near the basket for rebounds but instead like to throw up bricks from behind the arc with big bodied guys that should be near the basket for rebounds but instead like to throw up bricks from behind the arc.

Zeigler has a very good recap of the game and compares the experience the Zags had with predominantly a senior starting team vs a very inexperienced SDSU team
how quickly can the young guys develop is the key for this season
As for the next few years who knows who might be leaving for NIL money ?
Also does the selection group give SDSU credit for playing tough opponents this year
Would have hoped Heide had developed more then he has and also JCP - bottom line very difficult to replace Ledee and all the injuries

If we can keep the nucleus of this team together for the next 3 to 4 years sky’s the limit. You know that’s almost impossible right? NIL means that will never happen.

They got an experienced #3 team in America to play their game
They just missed shots. A lot of them. They got the hard part down

We definitely would have scored more points! Boyd lived up to the hype and some more. Even without playing basketball for the past couple of month due to injury.

If we can keep the nucleus of this team together for the next 3 to 4 years sky’s the limit. I would be stunned if we keep this group next year. Let alone, seeing a Senior class. There is just to much money out there and it's to easy to move on. If I were King, kids would sign a binding NLI out of HS, for two years. Red shirts are permitted for Frosh season and eligibilty is maintained for playing in four or less FB, eight or less BB games. All transfers are a two year commitment. Fifth year grad transfers are permitted. Must commit to a second Academic year at said Grad School. It would bring some stability to the less well financed programs.
