His move to Virginia looks like it paid off. He is a starter and played heavy minutes. He left with four minutes to go with leg cramps. He scored 5 pts ( 1 for 2 on three pointers) and had 6 defensive rebounds. They beat Villanova 70-60 He looked pretty good out there. Virginia is 3-0

5 pts on 2-7 shooting…yeah big loss. He would’ve started here. Villanova sucks, they lost at home to Columbia and their coach is likely getting fired after the season.

I think their coach would've played him the entire game if he could. Saunders didn't come out until late in the 1H with cramps and that carried over into the 2H. Still got heavy mins.
Saunders didn't get many good looks against Nova's zone but has played well for Virginia so far.

Saunders played so soft while on The Mesa... except for one play vs. Washington where he went hard to the rim and drew a foul.
While he would have been a starter here... I think Pharaoh would have bruised his ego and body on the court in practice.

6 rebounds was a couple games worth for him here. No offensive ones so maybe he's still a perimeter guy there too? I liked him but agree about Pharaoh not only supplanting Saunders minutes but maybe not even coming/staying here if Saunders stayed. Hope he does well but I don't miss him.

Good for Saunders. Hope he's happy.
But the way Saunders left town, I don't want to see him courtside on the Jumbotron at future Aztec events.

Saunders got 5 points last night but if memory serves he scored 16 with a couple of threes in a game earlier in the week. He's giving UVa what they want, I guess. I think we'll be better off with Pharaoh-Pharaoh in the long run for what we need.

Saunders was inconsistent when he was here at SDSU. The reason he is not here is because he took the bag of money to take care on his new born, which I respect.

I don't understand the negativity towards him. Okay, he wasn't the power forward we would have wanted. However, his game is more suited to the NBA and what CBB will become with the revolving door portal. Games will be won with athleticism and three point shooting.
While I wish he was still an Aztec, he would be a good fit with this years Team, he did what was best for himself financially, athletically, and academically. I hope he finds success.

Is it me, or has the quality of Dutches recruits dramatically improved since covid ?

as for SDSU since he left - it gives GM and Compton valuable minutes that will be needed as the season continues

Pharaoh and Magoon are going to develop into great players - hopefully here at the Mesa.
I’m going to hold back comment on if it’s better to not have a veteran PF until after Monday night for this current season.

sure seems that Saunders was a very steaky player who preferred to be an outside shooter and not mix it up down low or get many rebounds or blocks
there were games where he hit 3 or 4 three pointers and more games where he only made 1
Not a major contributor on the boards BUT was good at FT but did not draw many FT's as he drifted out to the perimeter and there for not many offensive rebounds
Even now prefer the defense that MG/ Compton can provide -

To summarize the Aztec transfer trio: Ohio State 2-1 Kentucky 3-0 Virginia 3-03 teams 8-1 Saunders, Parrish & Butler all providing leadership and support, but I am happy with our current line-up, so long Waters & Byrd make it back healthy and the new guys grow into their roles... hopefully by Monday vs Gonzaga and before the Players ERA event
