I believe this is the last year of super senior due an extra year for COVID. The portal may look a little different next year.

If I was looking at the transfer portal for older recruits, I would focus on the IVY league.
High IQ kids and some of them grow into being very good athletes. JMO.

If they have a year or two of eligibility I would think a lot of “older” players would like another shot at the game … especially if they are now getting paid.

Did you guys read about the Vanderbilt QB suing and and applying for a restraining order from the NCAA? Claiming he should get 2 more years of eligibility, because he wasn't able to benefit from NIL during his 2 years of playing at a JC? More insanity! Sorry can't download article from ESPN.

At our level we need to throw out the idea of installing a complicated offense. With all the shuffling of players because of NIL, we won't have the stability to build one. Having to constantly plug in new players learning a new system to them, will be like treading water. So the easiest thing to do is play an easy to learn basic offense and mix up the plays that the OC thinks will work at the moment. Somewhat like Rocky's offense, but with a more imaginative OC. JMO

JMO I had a coach once that used to call out the plays in practice so the offense and defense would know the call. He used to say, they should be able to know what is coming but we still win. Why, we know our keys, we execute. I am not suggesting we go that far, but it made practices interesting. It also helped the defense as they figured out quick that coach was also talking about the D knowing their keys and executing. Anyways, this game has passed me by.

JMO Which is why, given the current circumstances, I've advocated we switch to an 'old school' (yes, laughable, as it's the '99/'00 version) air raid system where the OL just need to get in the way of the DL and LB's. Spend the money and effort on QB's and a couple of WR's. The rules have gone the way that if you so as touch a WR they call PI let alone a safety like Ronnie Lott take their head off on a crossing pattern he gets cancelled for the entire season, if not expelled. Use that to your advantage. The run game in that system is swing passes, screens, tosses, etc. No inside zone over and freaking over again, which EVERY team from 8yo pop warner to the NFL runs now, into a stacked box like Geraldo Rivera trying to get into Al Capone's vault. No inside zone unless the box is 4 or less. Every QB and WR recruit knows the air raid route combos and have likely played in a system that runs them (4 verts, smash, sluggo, mesh, etc). Everyone knows those route combos including the defense, but it's still tough to defend against and why you still see the NFL running them. If there is a good QB or WR who might be "too small" to play in the SEC then we would have a good shot to land them because they know they could play soon AND they know the ball gets thrown a ton under that system. We've watched this entire season an inept OL struggle (for many reasons) in the run and pass (some of the worst in the country in both). Going old school quick air raid, gets rid of that issue. So long as we have WR's who are somewhat quick with good hands and a QB who can deliver in under two/three seconds we'd be fine. And I think the fans would be more into the game than watching freaking inside zone over and over again while saying we are the alpha dogs (clueless). Otherwise, to attempt to compete in this new era will be futile. If we ever got a Faulk they'd be gone after a year because our support is dog$H!+. The damn Wazzu QB (who isn't that good at all) reportedly already has a $1 million NIL waiting for him elsewhere. We have to do something different than everyone else or else we'll never be consistently good. We can't expect to compete on NIL because our NIL effort, while valiant, has seen lackluster participation. Absent football success or increases in NIL funding participation, the betas that run the university will fold the program like a cheap tent eventually. We need to be strategic and calculating in how we operate. Will a QB who performs well for us get massive NIL offers post season like the Wazzu QB? Absolutely, but that should be our selling point to young QB's. We'll give you some money, a scholly, and a shot to prove yourself and if you ball out for us you can write your ticket, if you so choose. Given NIL and just the quantitative demand for OL from the many schools who are "above us" in NIL and prestige, we will never be able to keep a great OL together - just look at our OL from last year and where they are - none of them were very good IMO and they were able to cash checks and start at P2 schools. We need to wake up to the current realities and craft a plan of success for our football program that can take advantage of of our strengths given the reality of where we are.
