Just a freaking fun game to watch.... I realize that going 0-4 over the next stretch is more likely than not.....
I was most impressed with our defensive intensity last evening....Up 45, the defense didn't seem to waiver... I've said that I would be happy with one win in that 4 game stretch. You have the #4 team (Gonzaga) and the #15 team (Creighton), which would require Herculean effort to beat either of those two. Oregon I'm not sure about. Then it is TBD game that will have a high quality team for sure. This is a different iteration of Dutcher BB. We have had a few studs down low in the past several years, with LeDee and Mensah. Not sure that currently we have anybody that can take over a game down low. But, I do think that (especially when Byrd and Waters get back in rotation) we have more than one guard who can over a game. If you get a couple of those guards hot at the same time, it will be tough for other teams. But, we still need a presence down low to be successful in February and March. Guess we'll worry about that when we get there.

Guess we'll worry about that when we get there. We know over the past 2 years open portal periods, Dutch & staff tried like crazy to get a legit 2-way 5. He would've landed a couple were it not for NIL $$$$$. I have been concerned it would come back to bite us, and it did last year (finishing in 5th place in conference), though we made up for it a bit by getting to the Sweet 16. This season it could very well hurt us in OOC and MWC play. Imagine if we had a Nelly Joseph, Graham Ike or another legit 5. This team would likely be a top 15-20 team going into season and we'd all feel much better going into this 4 game gauntlet. I fault Dutcher ZERO % for this. He would've landed who he wanted ... taking NIL out if the picture, there aren't many places better to play CBB than SDSU and Dutcher. Hope our guards all play and shoot lights out much more often than not this season. That'll give us better than a puncher's chance in our tougher games. Add in more presence and better play from JCJ, Heide and fast maturation from Pharoah, we will still be fun to watch and be a tough matchup in every game.

Have to wonder how many blocked shots this season Gwath will have if gets lots of mins? He's going to have some games where he blocks like 6,7,8 ... or more ... shots and the announcers will go crazy and it will become more nationally known. If he was down low as a 5, he could lead the nation in blocks. I was marveling at his touch at the FT line last night. He had an incredible feel for the ball and shooting,

This team is really, really talented… And really really young and inexperienced. They have a high, maybe very high, ceiling. I also think they could have a lower floor than many/most (all?) Aztecs squads in recent history. We know which one we hope happens. Fast. AZTECFAST. I am encouraged in that we have Coach Dutcher and he likes this team.

Our guards are real good. My question is how do we get the bigs more involved in the offense, especially JCJ and Heide who don't seem to be getting many opportunities and don't do much with ones they get. There's going to be games where the 3 pointers aren't falling and we're going to need to rely on them down the stretch. As long as our front court can rebound and rim protect we really don't need them to score much. The back court is going to be the real scorers.

I'm watching the game on DVR in bits and pieces today. Regarding Heide...positive is that he is a rebounder. He just seems to have a sense for it. But, offensively he is still a work in progress. I am not sure we need much more from him than rebounding and defense. But, man, if he just develop an offensive game around the rim...he has his chances with offensive rebounds, but then seems to get tied up in one way or another.

Big differences between Div I and Div IIII… and Div I AZzzzzzzzztecs and Div I Zags… at least this season. Next week could be a complete reversal of the beat down tonight , but we’ll see. That's the spirit! Nice take, not.

Just finishing at the rim could make him a fantastic garbage man. No need for other offense within this roster. Also, FT shooting. Those two skills could make him a 7-8 ppg guy off the bench

We need another word for the way this team will keep relentlessly rushing the ball up the court like they did vs Occidental.

UCONN comes to mind first, but right behind them in terms of consistently high quality half-court offense are probably Gonzaga and Creighton. I'd rather sprint up and down the court and trust athleticism against both of them.

Have to wonder how many blocked shots this season Gwath will have if gets lots of mins? Man I'm really concerned about him staying healthy. I've only watched a couple of games and he began limping both times. When we play against a team with a beefy center he'll be susceptible to injury due to his gangly build. Hopefully our coaches are teaching him to use proper footwork, at all times.

We finally have our team strength in the guard wing positions, ala Baylor and many other previous past champions. Love what I see in Nick Boyd, Throw in the most agile talented young 7 footer in program history (by far), and the sky is truly the limit next couple years. I get that they are an unknown and lack experience in areas, that said I’m predicting this team will surprise upside big time. With good shooting continuing, smart tough guard play, this is our recipe for return to final 4 and winning it. They will compete hard and beat several of the next top ranked opponents!

Have to wonder how many blocked shots this season Gwath will have if gets lots of mins? I don't see him getting a lot of minutes this year. He doesn't have the stamina to go for more then 4 or 5 minutes without needing a breather. He's a 20-25 minute a game guy for us this season.. maybe he can work on his cardio in the offseason and improve that for next year to get more minutes.
