To be fair, several players on the OL looked like they were dealing with some injuries (#62 in particular) gutting it out for most of the game. That being said, no offense is going to be effective without an offensive line doing its part. Those Muema/Pumphrey/Penny years didn’t just happen randomly, those teams from that era had some great OL play. Whenever a program makes a dramatic changeover in coaching philosophy the first and second years are going to usually be a building process. Sorry Aztec fans, we are going to need to be patient. Patience is warranted, but Coach Lew needs to win more than 4 games (Coach Hoke won 4 his first year with an even worst cupboard). That's the measuring stick for his first year. Next year, we need to win more than 7 games because Rocky never lost more than 6, and even his 90's style offense is better than this year's version. |

In reference to Penny, he made a good offensive look great. I don't know how many times he would make tacklers miss. Guys would fill the hole, he would make a cut, the potential tackler would either break his ankles or tackle air. Then, the burst of speed. Just amazing. He even showed it in the NFL despite being injury prone. |

yes Lewis has been able to bring in former players but do the Aztecs whole staff have the recruiting ties or coaching abilities to draw in some better players from the Portal or show that they can develop talent ? Where is that happening on the current team ? It is not going to help when recruits also see how many players left and to make matters worse how terrible the field is - although that is not his fault .
