Congrats to men's soccer for winning the men's soccer regular season championship. Starting at 7 p.m. tonight. the host women's soccer team faces UNLV with the winner facing Boise State on Wednesday. In the first quarterfinal today on the Sports Deck, CSU women looked solid in a 4-1 quarterfinal blowout win of Nevada-Reno and faces Utah State Wednesday. The weather is perfect tonight and unlike the 2023 MWC women's soccer tournament hosted by University of Wyoming where the Fresno State game against Colorado State had to be moved to the Wyoming indoor practice facility because of cold weather and frost on the field.

Does anyone know if the program will stay in the WAC? Wouldn't there be better competition in the WCC? So far there are only 4 of the new Pac12 schools (including us) that have a mens soccer program.

I'm guessing the PAC will sponsor their own. Already have SDSU, Gonzaga, and Oregon St. in the fold. Memphis has it should they join. I would think that UNLV and SJSU would join as affiliates. Then just need one more team. Funny, that team likely could be GCU.

The benefit of being in the WAC vs the Pac 12, is we are the big dog and favored to win the conference tournament and go to the NCAAs. It does not mean we will, but the odds favor us and we only need to win two games.
As the #1 seed, we will play the winner of San Jose State/Utah Valley in the semi final next Wednesday, and if we win that, we would get the winner of the Utah Tech/Cal Baptist game vs Seattle U in the final. The host, Grand Canyon, did not qualify, so there is no home team to deal with.
During the regular season, we beat San Jose State 1-0 at home, the Utah Valley game got cancelled due to the fires. We beat Utah Tech and Cal Baptist each by one goal on the road, and took down Seattle U 2-1 at home.
If we manage to win the WAC tournament, the most likely scenario would be a first round matchup with a Big West champ or WCC wild card, with a potential second round matchup likely against USD who gave us a beat down 3-0 early in the season on the road. USD appears to be a lock and are ranked #4 or #8 depending on which poll you look at. USD is currently 12-1-2 with ties against Washington and Duke and their only loss surprisingly at home vs Cal State Fullerton.
If you can get into the NCAA tournament, anything can happen any given year. I like being in the WAC for that reason.
Hopefully they can pull off the two wins and get back to the dance.

I think it completely depends on who else the PAC adds to finish off the conference. As it stands, only San Diego State, Oregon State and Gonzaga have men's soccer. If we don't add another soccer school, I think we stay in the WAC. I think the WAC presents a good opportunity to get to the tournament every year. I also don't think USD wants us in the WCC. The Big West could be an option. I will be very interested to see what happens with Gonzaga and Oregon State going forward. My expectation would be that Gonzaga would not be welcomed in the WCC as an affiliate member after leaving the conference, and I could see them ending up in the WAC too. Oregon State is currently in the WCC and they could potentially remain there. It is also possible that we add additional soccer schools such as Memphis or UNLV or a school that does not have men's soccer such as Boise State or Fresno State adds it, and if that happens, I can see the Pac trying to set up a men's soccer conference. My expectation is that we stay in the WAC.

Disappointing that men's soccer lost in the semi final of the WAC tournament to San Jose State as the #1 seed. That means ultimately, it was a disappointing season. The WAC ended up being a one bid conference with only the tournament winner Seattle U being selected. We will have at least one more year in the WAC and they need to win the conference tournament next year. They need to do better next year in non-conference as well to try to lock up a NCAA bid in case they do not win the tournament.
The women also lost in the semi final, 3-2 to Boise State, but Boise State was the 1 seed so it was less unexpected.
