A few things after watching Wazzu the last few weeks:
1. Mateer is the real deal. This QB does not shy away from pressure, and is sneaky athletic. You might look at his stats vs. Boise and think they stuffed him for 20 yards on 20 carries. No, he ripped off a 50+ yarder and burned them for multiple 1st downs when the pocket fell apart. If we stop Mateer's running, we win.
2. Aztecs have a chance if we can get our pass rush going. Trey and Henderson need to play disciplined, but I am hoping we bring inside pressure vs. a QB who will look to run up the middle. Hi and Fresneck were able to pressure and harrass Mateer often.
3. Our O-Line is decimated. But good news! Their front 7 is pretty unathletic. They're largely a 4-2-5 team, so they scheme their pressures vs. generating it with just the front 4.
4. Cougars were absolutely gashed by the SJSU TE's and runs up the middle.
5. Aztecs need to tackle. It is reported multiple players on defense will have a club hand due to injury.
***Kenan Christon should be healthy after missing 8 weeks recovering from early season ankle surgery. We'll see if Coach Lewis let's the 'Rarri out of the garage.
