Great signing, although I'll hold off my excitement until it is finalized. I wanted to see Hudson here a few years ago. Eck did a lot for the club but this is def an upgrade.

If we can sign Derek Lee and finish the Bartlett deal I'll feel a lot better about our offense than I did a month ago.
Cameron Mayben CF Orlando Hudson 2B Ryan Ludwick RF Derek Lee 1B Will Venable LF Jason Bartlett SS Chase Headley 3B Nick Hundley C
That lineup.. might... MIGHT.. be better than last years..

We won't get Lee. It will be either Cantu or Glaus. A cheap 1 yr deal for a right handed pull hitter like Glaus makes a lot of sense.

It would be better than last years cause no way Ludwick has a 550 OPS again, but chances are we get Glaus and the lineup top to bottom is better but we need Ludwick, Venable, and Maybin to step up. Also Bartlett will hit leadoff he has a good OBP and Maybin 7th they don't want to put any pressure on him

Orlando Hudson is 33 years old, I like the deal, but I am concerned his power might be on the decline. On the other hand, if Hudson can give the Padres some solid defense and hit in the .270-90 range this should be an up grade over Hairston/Eckstein.

If he can play good defense, and hit .275 or higher with a .340-.350 OBP, that would be good.

Hudson should have a nice amount of doubles and a few triples too. Way more range at 2b now. And, thankfully we got Maybin in Lieu of Gwynn Jr.

2011:$4M, 2012:$5.5M, 2013:$8M club option ($2M buyout)
So it is: $4 + $5.5 + $2 deferred 2 years $11.5
or
$4 + $5.5 + $8 - 3 years $17.5 Million
The third year would cost the Padres $6 million. $8 million salary minus the $2 million buyout.
