On one hand I don't blame UNLV for wanting the best deal they can get.
But I find the regent who was quoted saying, in part ... "UNLV has a good football program" just a tad clueless. Yeah, they've been good for about 5 minutes. When Barry Odom leaves - and he WILL leave - the odds are they'll go back to being mediocre.
If they don't accept the P? offer now/soon, I'd tell them they'll never be asked again. They don't have nearly the leverage or desirability they think they do. If the B12 does come calling at some point, UNLV won't be at the top of their speed dial.

GRANEY, former Daily Aztec Sports writer. Other than last year the last time UNLV won 50% of their FB games was 2013. The BBall programs last NCAA tournament appearance was the 2012-2013 and their last MWC tournament championship was in 2008. Sounds like they are full of themselves.

What would be left to go back to in the MWC for UNLV?
Adding UTEP and New Mexico State? merge with the AAC and bus trip to your games back east? play all your games on Tuesday Wednesday Thursday nights? have No Bowl ties? No Conference money? No AQ for March Madness? unable to even compete with Friday night High School football?
You can only have so many bake sales and carwashes to support your program.
Sure hope UNLV wakes up and understand they are WAY over playing their hand right now (they should know better, being in the Casino capitol of the WORLD!)

I would have been happier with Lower Nevada in comparison to ZERO VALUE GuuuuTah State (big event in that town is a Chinese Restaurant and Ice Cream-WooooHooo!)

When I skimmed the UNLV message board last week about half of the people posting were awaiting that Big 12 invite. Those who weren't delusional were arguing UNLV should do whatever it can to get into the Pac 12. I don't blame them for wanting to be in the Big 12 but they need to come to terms with reality. There are 5 or 6 schools in the new Pac 12 who are above them in line, plus a few in the American. Pretty much every school in the ACC is above them if that conference falls apart in 5 years. That puts 10 to 20 schools ahead of UNLV for a Big 12 invite. It seems like the professional sports boom in Vegas has gone to their heads. UNLV admins and fans would be wise to realize they are not the Raiders, Golden Knights, or A's. They are not even Utah State once Odom leaves.

Then they don't understand that all that competition for sports dollars hurts them, as is paying rent, even if its cheap, to play in an NFL stadium. Sure, the Allegiant will host CFP games but that is because they need those seats. UNLV will never need more than 30-35K seats.

If they decide to play hard ball like Graney suggests, then I think we should just invite Hawaii for football only. I understand they have their own TV deal in the islands with Spectrum Cable so they wouldn't take any of the PAC 12 TV money.

They aren’t mediocre, they’ve been terrible

Plus, not having a team in Vegas allows for a neutral site championship game, like the pac did for years
