Interesting that I put all that time and effort in to answer a question from RiffelBooks and your reply is this, negativity towards an Aztecs sports team. It seems like you're kind of a dick. I used to have football and basketball season tickets too, but I did not renew because I have three kids that all play multiple sports and my focus is on them and I could almost never make the games so it ended up being a waste of my money. I could not tell you a ton about this year's football team either. "I think this post kind of illustrates the uphill climb that Aztec football will ALWAYS have... according to your misguided logic. In reality, I have been to one SDSU soccer game so far this season. I have been to zero football games so far. So I guess if you think I am the litmus test for Aztec sports, Men's soccer is to doing much better than football. By contrast, I go to approximately 3 to 6 of my three kids' games pretty much every weekend. This is one of the main reason SDSU/SoCal is seeing football attendance dropping and support falling off. The kids of today (and last 20 plus years) are more involved in other activities other than football, meaning their parents are now involved in other activities and have no time and less interest following football. This shows up in fan attendance in that you have college students (not well represented), recent grads, young professional not married or have no kids and the older alumni (kid free). The biggest part missing and has been missing for years is the family crowd that builds tradition and that builds in a solid long term support group. The families around Southern California just have no time or interest anymore in going to and or supporting football with so many other things going on. This disassociation of family from the the support and involvement of football is why you are seeing less and less fan support in and around most college football games here, no interest, lack of time, over priced and odd game times for most families. This is not a trend it is fact and will be hard to change. You make some valid points, but speaking for myself the reason I rarely go to football games the past five years has to do with them lasting ~4 hours (thank you, TV timeouts) and the milquetoast offense (see above post re zero points in two games). CU was 4-8 last year yet take a look at their attendance. I guarantee you if the product was exciting fans would come. |
