Dodd is a Big 12 homer. I think the new Pac 12 with 9 schools gets. 11 million per school.

Feel like the new Pac TV deal should probably have a streaming component. Will be interesting to see how much Turner will have left to spend since they splurged on the French open and reportedly are about go give AEW double what they were getting. I think a combo of The CW/Streaming partner/ and maybe one game a week on TNT or TBS would work best.

That is all Dodd… he doesn’t speak for CBS… The right group of teams will net $12m to $15m…

I'll take 15 million a year for my bet with Apple or Amazon somehow involved. MAX / TNT will be in mix, imo. As a follow up, WSU and OSU have secured a football deal with the CW, while TNT Sports (TNT/TBS/Max), having lost its NBA contract, now has open programming slots, started airing MW FB games this fall (lower-tier.) Apple was previously in discussions with the Pac-12 before its collapse, and FOX and CBS will be wrapping up their Mountain West contracts just as the new PAC rights become available. ESPN/ESPN+/Hulu might also show interest in Western sports content, even though they already hold existing NCAA conference agreements, they have multiple platforms and time periods to program. And don't count out Amazon who just picked up the NBA with Disney, plus airs Thursday night NFL football, they are located in Seattle, Washington. According to Bob Thompson ex-President of Sports at FOX, " The Pac-12 jumps to first in line on the collegiate TV deal front. For several reasons, their games will be valuable to networks." Possible bidders include Fox, which might see a restructured new PAC as a step up from its Mountain West relationship and look to maintain its inventory. Turner is also moving into the college football space, sub-licensing College Football Playoff games from ESPN, and will need new content to fill the gap left by the NBA. Plus CBS and CBSSN currently support the MWC, but the new PAC lifts the top 4 MW schools (perhaps 5 or 6) and needs to fill inventory as well. “College football has never been a more attractive property for various forms of media,” an industry source said. Therefore the PAC wants to get the remaining 2-4 schools committed and jump in line for Media Rights while all other power conferences are in mid-stream. As far as Media Rights & Valuation, the press (Wliner) has suggested an average of $10 million+ per school per year seemingly approaches the ceiling for the rebuilt the new PAC unless 1) the demand side of the marketplace changes substantially or 2) the conference adds two schools that further enhance value. And some suggest that, Streaming will change the situation, opening up new potential bidders and additional avenues for distribution. For context, Stanford and Cal are receiving $11 million, or 30% shares, from the ACC. In my opinion, that's the benchmark to surpass, and it could potentially entice the Bay Area schools back to the Pac-12, if they can separate academics from athletics. None of these figures factor in CFP money, which will go to the schools and not the conferences given realignment issues. Much of the Media Valuation information comes from John Wilner, Bay Are Sports writer.

It not just those two. TNT and CW are really trying to get into the college sports.

That is all Dodd… he doesn’t speak for CBS… The right group of teams will net $12m to $15m… Better than I expected as I recall this conference (shown below) was, at the time, valued at the $11-12M range: Cal Stanford OSU Wazzu SDSU UNLV CSU AFA Memphis Tulane Rice UTSA

I see having a relationship with Apple as being a really good thing. Yes, its streaming, but they are the richest company in the world by far.

I agree, even with the terrible job George K did The Apple deal might have turned out to be a huge success.

I agree, even with the terrible job George K did The Apple deal might have turned out to be a huge success. The greedy PAC Presidents and CEO Committee greatly over-valued their bids and pitched $50MM a school, ESPN walked at $30MM, which was in-line with the Big XII and ACC. The PAC proposed deal with Apple included the following points:* Base rate: An annual base rate of $23 million per school * Incentives: Incentives based on projected subscribers to a Pac-12 streaming product * Opt-out clause: An opt-out clause after three years if the deal didn't reach a specific revenue target The deal fell apart at the 11th hour, with the Presidents and AD's were expecting a second, more traditional option with linear TV that never came, when Oregon & Washington jumped ship. (Previously Colorado left in July, prior to the Media Rights, and UCLA and USC announced in 2022 their Big X agreement.) The PAC instead agreed to a one-year deal with The CW and Fox Sports to broadcast 13 home games for Oregon State and Washington State, and the PAC paid out $14MM to the Mountain West to secure that scheduling alliance. (Rumor had it that Gloria & the MWC asked for more in 2025, that accelerated the New PAC announcement this week. This suggested she over-played her hand, and now may lose 5-7 MWC schools.) Here are the PAC games on the CW/FOX in 2024. Oregon StateIdaho - CW Oregon - FS1 Purdue - CW Colorado State - CW UNLV - CW San Jose State - CW Washington State - CW Washington State Portland State - CW Texas Tech - FS1 San Jose State - CW Hawai'i - CW Utah State -CW Wyoming - CW

PAC12 will be the ONLY conference available for media rights purchase for the next decade. If you want to broadcast good college football, the new PAC12 is the only option left. That puts them in a great position to get a network or two to overbid for their rights.

That puts them in a great position to get a network or two to overbid for their rights. OSU AD Scott Barnes said that the “revamped” Pac-12 “has a grant of rights deal in place.” He said that it is a "long-term" deal but did not reveal the terms (Salem STATESMAN JOURNAL, 9/14).

I agree, even with the terrible job George K did The Apple deal might have turned out to be a huge success. His biggest mistake was getting talked into countering with $50M/team. Had he been smart and competent, he would have said "no" and countered at around $40M

Exit fees are ludicrous in today's CFP football landscape. As far as the PAC, there's a 5 year window to establish itself until the next big wave of changes come with television and streaming deals, changing the rules again. Barnes did say that these universities are of the same mind-set and accept the same level of risk.
