Good write up, thanks for sharing. A couple comments...
"Lewis is among the top offensive minds in college football."
Is he? According to whom?? I'm sure not seeing it. Even looking at his background, it's not like he had a decade of brilliance running offenses. But I think we all bought into this notion. We may have been naive or duped.
The lack of discipline and a lot of other smaller detailed things with this team are not good, so egregious that's a little concerning. These are type of things that are usually the difference between poor/bad teams and good/very good teams.
The Napier TD was great, but 2 drops?! Cmon, if you can't catch 29 of 30 passes that hit your hands in games- and I'm probably setting too low a bar - you're not good enough to be reliable and therefore to play.
It boggles my mind how many drops there are, given the guys all wear gloves and the balls have more "feel". I didn't see this many drops in the "pre-glove" era.

Aztec Fast = quirky game plan meaning we're going to catch you off guard and hope for the best instead of solid fundamental football. Blocking, tackling, no mistakes i.e. no penalties

I would certainly agree with the sentiment that with all the practices he's had with this team using his Aztec Fast philosophy, if they ain't got it by now … are they ever going to get it? Unless his practices are perfect, more of it isn't gonna matter much.
ah
They have a week off to get this cleaned up "at practice" … the test will be in the next game. And it should be an overwhelming Aztec victory against an inferior opponent. If not, SDSU, we have a problem …

It seems to me that Coach Lew still has to prove his offense works at this level.

Trey White is the man so far this year If he keeps this up all season, he'll be in the discussion for MWC DPOY.
If the Aztecs had leads his pass rush stats ie..sacks & hurries would increase

"Aztec Fast" refers to how quickly we rack up penalties.

I'm taking the more patient, hopeful outlook. I definitely do think the hurry-up-and-snap-it plays are contributing to many of the pre-snap penalties. That will get cleaned up as time goes on. It's the stupid, preventable penalties that really, really need to disappear. We seemed to have those issues with our previous two coaches as well.
Remember, we were warned this offense will take quite a while to get to where it needs to be. But I am actually quite pleased with the play calling overall. And even with the relative inexperience, QB accuracy has improved considerably. Get rid of those penalties and we'd have scored a lot more.

We'll be making things "a little bit tighter, a little bit crisper with a little bit more fundamental time." Approximate quote. Ok, that should do it!

Didn't Lewis originally say that the offense would come into it's own during year two?
