While this isn't the classic PAC 12 that we wanted to join, it's still going to be a really good conference.
I've been saying ever since the blowup of the old PAC 12 that the best bet for everyone was for OSU and WSU to rebuild the PAC with SDSU, Colorado State, Boise, and Fresno. I heard a lot of, "Not Boise and Fresno! CALFORD won't come back if they're in!" But the new PAC has to have athletic credibility, and Fresno and Boise help give the conference athletic credibility. SDSU and CSU give the conference academic credibility as well as athletic credibility.
If CALFORD finds that the ACC is a disaster for them travel wise, or if that conference implodes, their choices will be limited. Guaranteed that the BIG 10 won't want them, and the BIG 12 aren't likely to want them, either. So if they need a new home in the next few years the new PAC will still be their best bet, and they won't be able to look down on the conference for including Boise and Fresno.
Now, the question becomes - who will members 7 & 8 be? UNLV? Tulane? Memphis? Someone else? I'm sure of this - it will be a pair of schools FAR better than San Jose State, New Mexico, Wyoming, and Nevada!
This is the best possible REALISTIC outcome for SDSU after the old PAC imploded. We couldn't have realistically expected better. We're movin' on up!
I believe!

This is baller approved! We had to make this move because it wiped out the MTN west and all the bad presidents in the conference. Its also got rid of the 4 dead weight schools that were not making the necessary investment in their athletic department. The way I look at the move is we went from living in south central LA where neighbors don't cut their lawns and maintain their property to Valencia. Did we move to Beverly Hills or Brentwood, no. Are we going to be a power 5 school, no. But at least this will create a seat at the dinner table for the 12 team new playoff system where we can potentially make additional revenue. Even TCU had two move twice to get back P5 status. They were relegated from the swac to conference USA to the mountain west back to the Big12.

If you are interested in investing in athletics, building academics, and have market penetration in a top media market, you are up for consideration. I would be ok with the following configuration:
WSU OSU BSU CSU State Fresno UNLV Memphis Tulane USF (yes this is a pain, but more so for USF)
Basketball Only? I don't know. It has not worked out for Wichita State and the AAC.
I would also sign a scheduling agreement with Hawaii.

Addition by subtraction - and addition by addition! (Minus New Mexico, Wyoming, Nevada, and Utah State, Plus OSU and WSU. A big improvement over where we are now.)

I'm not quite as excited as you are, but we're definitely improving our lot in college athletics. The most important thing, IMO, is positioning ourselves for even bigger things down the line. Things might shake out again before 2030, and if Lewis has us expanding Snapdragon because he's winning league championships and Dutcher keeps doing his thing, we'll be in good shape for the longer term future.
That said, we need to be very careful with our next two football additions, and we're going to need to bring in Gonzaga/St Mary's and maybe some Big West schools to fill out the non-football sports lineups.

Bryce Miller from the UT made another excellent point. Dutcher has to be ecstatic now that he isn't hamstrung to 18 league games, a lot of those against crappy teams. Now he has the ability to schedule way more OOC resume boosting games. Screw the MW.

Another plus is there won’t be any extra money for Boise because they won’t have that BS carve out they had in the MW.

Trying to do what's best for the conference rather than the schools that are actively bringing in revenue has consequences. PAC 12 implosion and now our departure are now two examples. ACC could end up being a 3rd example.

One from Birmingham is convinced that Tulane and Memphis are already out, with UTSA being a lock. There's concern that the AAC could end up like CUSA, forcing schools to accept reduced media rights fees. Some suggest that Liberty, Troy, Texas State, and App State should replace them in the AAC. The 365 Sports podcast mentioned that Brett Yormark is eyeing UNLV for the Big XII, with the Rebels holding out for a better offer. Some believe CAL and Stanford might return, though they’re tied to the same grant of rights as Florida State and Clemson. Surprisingly, someone suggested that the PAC might try to grab FSU and Clemson—despite both looking for bigger paydays. Gary Parrish from Memphis had a local blogger on who argued that Memphis has an easier path to the CFP by staying in the AAC and waiting for a potential ACC invite in a couple of years. A Tulane blogger from "Wave to Wave" claimed that Tulane already has a secret offer from the PAC. Most agreed that both UTSA and Tulane have merit, and the PAC would seriously consider them. However, many think the PAC will wait to see what happens with the ongoing ACC lawsuits before making any further moves. The common theme across these discussions is figuring out the best path to the CFP and securing an automatic bid. Canzano and Wilner, both carried on why CAL & Stanford would never play in a conference with State Schools, land grant or ag focused. However, in the ACC Clemson & Louisville are not Duke, UNC and UVA. Do academics/AAU status/R1 even come into play any more? As a consensus: Memphis, Tulane, UTSA and UNLV would get the new PAC to the 'Best of the Rest', So Florida & UConn make no sense, with this current arrangement.

It’s an obviously dumb move but they were probably in too deep when the selection committee showed the conference just how much it was willing to punish mediocre OOC scheduling. The selection committee dropped every non-SDSU team by about 2 or 3 seeds off their NET expectation, meaning it’s going to be impossible to achieve decent seeds without an OOC resume.

I hated playing against them in FB because of their offense and precision. And if you beat AF in BB, it was expected, and if you lost, it was a calamity.

Seriously, do they think even for a moment that WSU/OSU or ANY school for that matter when it comes to conference realignment that they didn't do their homework? Like they don't consider that maybe, just maybe only bringing in 4 schools now was by design? These schools pay consulting and law firms MILLIONS to play out scenarios for them. But you get these yahoo-type guys "it doesn't make any sense for xyz" and you just want to slap them.

I would like to see the AAC (American Conference) pick up Air Force, to go along side of Army & Navy. They play each other anyway for the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy, and it gives the academies additional non conference games. All have similar limitations on recruiting and academics. The MWC can focus on the Southwest, UTEP, NMSU, the WAC/Southland, plus open up the Dakotas/Montana and we can be done with terrible travel, 20-game conference schedules, and altitude.

It's true—there are plenty of "Alex Jones" types on YouTube cranking out sports podcasts from their basement man caves. Full of hyperbole, conspiracy theories, wild guesses, and sometimes outright fabrications about their sources, I watch them more for entertainment than actual insights. Still, there's something intriguing about these guys, especially since they’re convinced they have the inside scoop when, in reality, they’ve got nothing. It’s like: “My neighbor's cousin works at the university, and they know the AD's secretary, who has a friend at the Big XII who overheard a water-cooler discussion that said..." Its f****** crazy, they are the Jerry Springer's of sports.

tj altimore has taken shots from people, but he is very logical and works in academia. take this chart, he nailed the op 4 for the MW. Using this chart as a guide, then Tulane and Memphis are next up with Rice being up before AF and UNLV.
