Saddest truth is that they're never considered for much of anything.
The train left the station,
The groom left them at the alter
And the AZZZZZZZZtecs continue to exist in a backwater conference …
Doesn't mean they have to play like they're in a backwater conference. Basketball program sure doesn't …

the podcast concluded with SDSU picked to finish 4th in MWC basketball this season with Boise STate winning. with so much turnover on roster it is hard to project the qualiity of the team in preseason.

I don't buy 4th place at all. SDSU is as talented or better than every other MWC team. Because of turnover, I could see SDSU being modest in the non-conference at about 7-5. But they always get better throughout the season so I think 12-4 in MWC. That should be good for 2nd or tie for first.

I could care less where we end up in this conference. As long as we qualify for the Big Dance, that's what is important. Everybody else is just a leech, as evidenced by their dismal one and done record there.

It's absurd that you play a round Robin schedule that only qualifies as seeding for a Conference tournament. One stumble and the previous 4 months of basketball can kick you to the curb nationality.

"Qualifying" for the big dance IS important but having better seeds is the most important route to getting farther in the tournament. Why would you not care about that?

New Mexico was a #11 Boise State, Colorado State and Nevada all at #10 They all went down their first games.
They all had conference records good enough for invites. But SDSU's was a #5. Sorry but you have a WAY better chance at advancing as a #5 than you do as a #10 or #11.

If we finish 4th in the MW there's a good chance we're on the bubble or out of March Madness. I don't think there's any chance that more than 3-4 MW teams make the tourney and MW teams NET rankings are going to be bad moving forward due to 20 game conference schedules and conference realignment making it hard to schedule quality non-conference.

I see it both ways and have a hard time with this excuse. You just don't schedule a couple extra cupcakes. You play good teams in the games you can schedule. Participate in the better MTE and play a tough OOC schedule. If you mean we can't play Texas Southern or Point Loma or whomever, so be it. I am just not one to buy into a 20 game conference schedule just kills us. Sure it makes it harder, but not impossible. Just my opinion.

Leon Rice is a good coach but reminds me of Rocky Long. They get you a great win early in the season but when it matters the most their teams tend to fold. They are just not late season coaches.

I assume you mean the play-in games. Yes, Leon's MM record is a stellar 0-5 but the highest seed he ever attained was a #8. And play-in games are definitely easier but then you have to play a #6 or #7 seed team. It's pretty simple. The better the seed you are, the weaker teams you play as you go through the tournament. i agree it's important to just get in but it's kind of absurd to think the better seeds aren't worth having.

If the league had some salesman and different personalities they may have been able to get a conference switch done. Whoever leads the charge need to know how to sell it.
