Like Ryan said, there are many that don't think even that deep. They only remember the pocket book, but not the how's, and the why's of how it became. Very superficial. It's not even THAT deep, as the article describes. Hegemonic masculinity...a bizarre phenomenon. I hear ya. It's surface level stuff.

Hegemonic masculinity activism is interesting and I was not aware of the term. FYI,I couldn't get around the FT paywall to read the article but looked up the term. It looks like the concept brings to light the basis for some of the current policy being pushed. There has always been a struggle with power between men and woman and not all woman are buying into the social change of the Hegemonic masculinity movement. Which explains why Trump is poling with 40% of female voters. A man hater will never align with a guy like Trump.
I can also see how the hegemonic masculinity movement is most likely behind the rising trend with "Passport Bros" looking for more traditional relationships outside of the United States.

Just open up a new browser. Here's the relevant excerpts. "He is a convicted felon, a conspiracist, a philanderer and a businessman who has lied about his wealth. He thinks America has been too soft on democratic allies, too hard on authoritarian rivals, and that immigrants are “spoiling” it from the inside. And Donald Trump is the clear favourite to win the US presidential election in November. The photograph of Trump defiantly fist-pumping and thundering “Fight! Fight! Fight!” moments after his attempted assassination on July 13 is likely to become the defining image of this year’s campaign. But even before, the race had been turning in his favour." "It did not take Donald Trump’s cool reaction to an attempted assassination to confirm to Phil Gross that the former president was a real man. But it didn’t hurt, either. “You can’t make that up. That has to be innate in you,” said Gross, a house painter and father from Chester, Pennsylvania. “Trump’s a man’s man.” "This aspect of the Trump factor attracts some women, too. Among them is Lisa Gasper, a Philadelphia realtor who voted for Trump twice. “I look for a leader,” is how she described her political tastes. As for the former president’s demeaning remarks about women, including the infamous “grab ‘em by the *****” recording, Gasper shrugged them off. She spent her career in male-dominated offices and, she said, that’s how they talk."

Trump’s base is smaller than most think. His rallies are attended by a lot of people who are compensated to go. The actual MAGA establishment isn't massive in comparison to the amount of total voters, but there's still a large anti-Dem coalition/groups that will just vote Republican/binary voters.

I've seen the Trump team run ads on Craigslist and people at rallies confirm they were paid to go.

Any feelings on Harris wanting to tax unrealized capital gains. How many will lose their homes in California if they cannot pay this huge tax?

Because people are stupid and gullible. A lot of people. It's sad, really. Critical thinking skills have gone to hell in American society, unfortunately. You already played the stupid card. Not all can be stupid, Fox doesn't have that many viewers. That is all you can think of? I'd add fear to the list as well. Lack pf education/critical thinking skills + racist/xenophobic fear-driven propaganda = Trump voters.

My feminist wife and I often discuss this mind-boggling "Big Daddy" syndrome; it's a real and powerful thing in this country, as is the realization that misogyny > racism, which I did not truly appreciate until the '16 election.

NO!!The audience at Harris’ Arizona rally was not made up of paid actors"Vice President Kamala Harris drew more than 15,000 people to her Aug. 9 presidential campaign rally in Arizona — one of her largest campaign crowds yet. But some online are claiming those attendees were paid to be there." ""It was invite-only and not open to the public. They’re all paid actors." "Similar Craigslist ads have been circulating since 2019. In 2020, PolitiFact found that an identical ad was inauthentic." www.politifact.com/factchecks/2024/aug/13/instagram-posts/the-audience-at-harris-arizona-rally-was-not-made/

Lack pf education/critical thinking skills + racist/xenophobic fear-driven propaganda = Trump voters. racist/xenophobic fear-driven propaganda was started by Democrats (Pelosi) at the beginning of Covid-19 when Trump wanted to shut down travel to/from China. This created a bunch of Trump Haters. Trump being Trump calling Covid-19 the Chinese virus was a problem as well. Covid-19 was totally politicized at the expense of the American people.

We are feeling the effects of open boarders around the country with increased crime and poverty. There has been mass shipping of homeless to who knows where for election optics in LA and SF. On my last trip to LA a little over a month ago, I saw skip loaders at homeless camps scooping up tents and crap to take to the dump. Is there no compassion by the Governor for these people? What I was talking about how Pelosi publicly called Trump xenophobic for shutting down travel to/from China during Covid-19 before the lockdown when the origin of the virus was determined to be from a Wuhan lab in China. Her verbal actions were deplorable to the American people.

Trump started the xenophobic comments with Barack Obama, and then years later as a Presidential candidate with disgusting rhetoric about immigrants in general, then his xenophobic comments and actions towards Muslims was over the top racist. Expecting no one to criticize him for those comments is absurd.

Her verbal actions were deplorable to the American people. Again, no, it was not. It was about selective countries being added to a list (largely without foundation) and demonizing refugees. Hiding behind a blanket of national security interests while ignoring obvious other threats (like the actual country that perpetrated 9/11) is just vindictive, anti-immigrant bigotry. It violated international law, only being upheld by a corrupt Supreme Court by the slimmest of margins. Crime is DOWN. (There's a literal thread on this already) but this is more bad faith nonsense on your part, truly the mark of someone who is in denial about political support. Pelosi's words were accurate, Trump is one of the most xenophobic individuals on this planet, easily proven and documented. You're a Trump supporter, that's fine. But reality doesn't change because you want it to, nor does it change when you're confronted with factual instances of Trump's repeated vile attacks on immigrants, including LEGAL immigrants in Ohio. He's a corrupt, narcissistic garbage can of a human being.

He's talking about a specific action, Erik. Do you always have to go to the trolling card? Sheesh. You must like having certain people walk on eggshells. Whether he's right or wrong, he's not being disrespectful. People may be wrong in their assumptions, but it doesn't mean they're trolling. Do you want this forum to be completely one sided and not hear others views. Tone down the trolling threats. You're reaching here, big time.
