This is our annual discussion of how to improve game atmosphere. Here we are in year 3 of Snap and I don't really feel we have made it a true home field advantage that I thought it would (with the exception of probably a game here and there or a few series). Now I know it would help if we didn't have a crappy offense the past few years but what else can us and everyone do to make it better? We can't rely on Chet to hype up the crowd all the time but he is still great, props to you Chet if you are reading this.
Any new traditions we can come up with? I would like to hear the young generation of fans of what they like to do or hear during gamedays as they will be the ones after all of us who support SDSU.
I know social media is hear to stay and have seen Youtubers like Jaycation (from Mira Mesa and SDSU alum) do a stadium tour to highlight the food. We have a few others and probably more that I don't know but is there a way to put a call out to them to help bring in more peeps? I know I said gameday atmosphere but heck we need more butts in stands too!

Win, win, and win some more. I echo your appreciation for Chet. Candidate for the 'Aztec Fan Mt Rushmore' along with the esteemed Tom Ables.

Win with a fun team, and marketing. With a city with so many other options, a UCF/Oregon type of team is needed. Wisconsin/Iowa ball is not a recipe for success on filling a stadium. What is rough is that we have had some exciting defenses, but they were paired with an offense that folks in Iowa City wouldn't watch.
Then, our marketing has to shift the narrative of SDSU's caliber of schedule is. UCF, Houston and Cincinnati were filling their stands (well, depending on if they were good) with a schedule if similar squads as the MWC. But all of them had a brand of social media marketing that I haven't seen from SDSU.
These are fixable issues. Hopefully the first part is going to start to be fixed this year.

Defense wins championships. But an exciting offense sells tickets.

Defense wins championships. But an exciting offense sells tickets. How about both!? I want Rocky's tough defenses plus a high powered offense.

Besides or in addition to the obvious of winning, it's important to create a fun atmosphere and my quick complaint/issue with The Dragon is on the music selection. Last year prior to kickoff they played so much "rap/head banging/loud noise"!!!! Nothing that helps to get the crowd or fans involved. I've been to numerous BIG time stadiums and they will play fun, inviting music that gets everyone involved. There are so many different musical groups and songs to please just about everyone, but so mad that they played this loud noise!!

Gotta get way more people in there before anything else. The paltry crowds last year had a lackadaisical JC feel to them far too often. Besides those who filled the bars for the whole game, the stands were often empty by the 3rd quarter. It's no way to expect a program - or its fans - to really care much about music, food, or you toob videos. Football is why they're there. If AZZZZZZZZZZZtecFAST is going to work, it needs do so from the first play from scrimmage on August 31. I have high expectations…

Regarding keeping students at the game, for the entire game, maybe we can do a free tuition giveaway.
The student signs-in when you arrive at the game (via an app of some sort), and then signs-out sometime in the 4th quarter (after the 5-minute mark left in the quarter).
At the end of the season, those students who have attended all games, and have met the checked-in and out requirements, are entered into a drawing for free tuition next semester (maybe sponsored by a merchant or one of the NIL-entities).
Need the students to help create the home field advantage!

Winning, winning, offense, defense and start building the community. Pop Warner, the flag football programs, HS's , etc. Plenty of room for tixs to kids. Maybe some family pack tix program tix+ soda+ hot dog for family of 4? As for game day experience, new stadium, new coach, time to make are own game day experience. I have not heard anything/good about the fan zone? Ithink the dirt parking was a hindrance. I get the reason for not paving, but if in 5 years we are still there the way they decided on parking n tailgating, hindsight? We were spoiled by the Q parking and prices, but has a been long time when we really had any real gameDay experience. Do miss the chariot races, fire works, the band sections cruisin n playing all through the stadium, all the fans I used to sit with, and the familiarity of 50 years at the Q, and the halcyon days of Coryell n Faulk. All us old people are adjusting to the new, as the younger people/students how ever few there are, never experienced real Aztec games. All this after 2 years in Carson and 2 so so years at Snapdragon. And I remember those first 5-6 at Cox before it became Viejas. Fisher n the show made it what it is.

This X a million I understand trying to engage young people with "their music" but the reality is that SDSU needs older people's $ to make this football thing a financial success. 1) be more diverse in the music 2) don't play it so loud you can't talk to people in the stands 3) realize you don't have to fill every quiet moment with music, chants or cheers Now GET OFF MY LAWN!

I think the Aztecs need to do something to make sure fans are in their seats for opening kickoff and not in the clubs or concession areas. At kickoff even when the place is pretty full, looks half empty. Maybe some sort of big announcement to fans or certain type of music that cues them.

Great ide, Maybe something like: Just before the team takes the field, a huge cloud of smoke erupts like a volcano on the sidelines, followed by a loud low pitch droning hum. Out of the smoke a slight flame can be seen, and slowly a fierce Aztec Warrior emerges holding a burning spear and blowing a conch shell to call his nation to battle. Too dramatic???

The marketing in our athletic department has two issues: a severe lack of creative, innovative people and not a lot of money and resources.
We could use the same rejuvenation and infusion of energy and creativity to our marketing department that Sean Lewis has brought to the overall football program. But we don't want to spend the kind of cash to bring people in and fund their ideas. So it's not gonna happen.

Old standards like Start Me Up and Sweet Caroline and even Shipping Up to Boston come across much better. I'm not suggesting those ditties but just giving examples of music that others have used. I feel your pain!

Anybody remember the Shriners driving around in Aztec Bowl back in the dim and distant days in their little cars? That should do the trick. Simpler times.

Maybe work with the SDSU MBA program giving these students real life experience while earning their degree. I mean you are talking about people who are basically getting ready to join the exact industry you are looking to improve, I know not everyone is going into Marketing and Promotions but you would still have a great opportunity to join forces. business.sdsu.edu/graduate/sports-mba
