Malachi Flynn agreed to a one-year contract with the Spurs, per to Shams Charania of The Athletic. It’s a non-guaranteed deal.
Mal made headlines with the Pistons in April when he scored 50 points off the bench in a game against Atlanta. Mal played for three teams last season, starting the year with the Raptors, who selected him 29th in the 2020 draft. And, after 31 games, he was shipped to New York in late December as part of the OG Anunoby trade. He saw limited time in NY playing 14 games, before being dealt to Detroit at the February deadline.
This should reunite Mal and Nathan this fall, but San Antonio already has 15 players with fully guaranteed deals, plus all three of its two-way contract slots are filled, so Flynn faces a difficult road to win a job at training camp.

I'd guess it's essentially a higher-paid training camp invite, unfortunately neither Flynn nor Mensah are going to make the Spurs parent roster.

I can’t think of another NBA team that has given Aztecs more NBA chances.

Non-guaranteed deal, and Spurs already have 15 guaranteed contracts and all two-ways filled I believe. So, he's got an uphill climb to stick around. That being said, it's better to be in camp with a team than not be in camp with a team, so hopefully it leads to some sort of opportunity for him.

If anyone can get the most out of Flynn, it's Popovich. So if Flynn flops then it's on him. Not the coaching or the system.

I don't really know that Flynn is a '15'th guy' type of a player. He needs the ball in his hand to make things happen on offense, and is limited defensively. Flynn needs a situation with a consistent 15 minutes a game as the backup ball handler. I guess he has to hope to be the third guy in that role for a team and then to step up when one of the guys in front of him gets hurt.
