Now that college athletics have become a pay-to-play defacto minor league system for the NBA and NFL, is there still a compelling reason to cap the earning potential of athletes based on an arbitrary rule that punishes athletes by imposing a 5 year career limit?

Why not just allow college players to play indefinitely? Many are no longer really college students. Just let a million dollar player play until he retires. Perhaps after a 20 year career. Many are just employees now. I hardly care any more. College football is a disaster and we're in the MWC. Seriously, what is there to care about?

Sure. Why not eliminate the last few vestiges of college athletics as we knew it. The worst part of what you posted is that it's way too likely to actually happen. That's a shot at the message, not the messenger.

I'm glad that you are on this site. Anybody who was in the bowl watching players like Craig Scoggins and Rod Dowhower and Gary Garrison while I was there watching as well is alright by me.

thought as part of the transfer process a player had to have a certain GPA and be accumulating enough credits to be on a path to graduate

Back at you. There aren't many of us left who were there in the early 1960's. Who knows, we may have sat side by side in Aztec Bowl and/or Peterson back then. We have proven ourselves to truly be Aztecs For Life.

thought as part of the transfer process a player had to have a certain GPA and be accumulating enough credits to be on a path to graduate Hahaha 😂 That’s a good one…I haven’t laughed that hard in a while…. The NCAA is the equivalent of the toothless abominable snowman (thanks to Cornelius and Hermie, the future dentist)…maybe good for placing stars on the top of Christmas trees or handing out trophies at the end of the season…but hardly any type of governing body in charge of anything except cashing checks (for the moment at least)… It’s the Wild West out there with plenty of hired guns taking whatever they want from whoever they want it from…

We don’t need no stinkin’ badge.

The reason I wasn't against Mesa paying $25,000 per year to the basket ball players is because they couldn't work during the season, and even if they could it would extremely difficult with practice and game travel taking up so much of their time. The $25,000 I figured wasn't too far out of line with what none athlete students would be able to make working a job while attending school.
