Friends with one the UCSB player's Dad. Just got off the phone with him and asked him how did UCSB won the game? He told me that UNLV could not score against UCSB match up ZONE!
Asked him what was going on with UNLV? He told me that UCSB outplayed UNLV on both ends of the floor. Also, as a team, UNLV jacked up 34 three point shots and made 6. Sounds familiar?
As a matter of fact, stats reflect that UNLV's Stanback jacked up 23 three point shots by himself! Bottomline, UCSB just UPSET the #22 ranked team in the Country and one of most feared teams in the MWC. Now, does this mean UNLV will see ZONE the rest of the season? WOW!

False. Chance took 10 threes, and the team itself shot 29 of them.
They did however shoot 34 FT.

Just looking at stats it seems they camp around the perimeter, shoot a jump shoot, vacate the offensive end, and pack the defensive key. They also got hammered on the boards by a bad rebounding team. They better hit their shots and they better find the aztecs on the offensive glass because those o-rebounds will be dunks.

No way UCSB upsets 2 of the top 3 MWC team on the road in 4 days....we'll be fine as long as we are at full strengnth. I wonder if we'll be close to another sellout.

UCSB is one of the worst defensive rebounding teams in the country - #305. The Aztecs are one of the best offensive rebounding teams. The Aztecs should be able to get a lot of offensive rebounds (percentage-wise). Hopefully they can put a lot of those back in. UCSB creates a lot of turnovers. The Aztecs need to protect the ball. The Aztecs ae pretty good at doing that. They are 2nd in the MWC in fewest turnovers.

I figured Fish has his guys not taking any teams lightly, this team will not be an easy win. No matter what the stats say, if you don't bring your best game, you're going to lose.
Oldie Out

I hope the entire team will be at full strength. Leonard has shown he's still an above average player if he's not 100%. I don't know about the others though.

Thats better for us. Ups their RPI and makes sure the players take this game seriously. Definitely will tell the players that UCSB needs to be taken seriously, and that's a good thing for us.

Gee, I guess Fisher should call Bobby Knight for some tips on how to beat a zone!

I'm more concerned about the Flu than the Zone. I know Fisher team can deal with the Zone.

Obviously, we must come to play on Saturday. To beat a zone is to get the ball inside then pass to the open 3 if they collapse on our inside men. The key is to have the right people shooting the 3(and make it of course). Passing it around the perimeter and then having Shelton, White, or Carlwell hoisting up a shot as the 35 second clock winds down, is not likely to work. I am convinced that DJ, Rahon, and Tapley will be able to make a good percentage if they get open looks. Cal Poly was a fluke. BTW, I am sure Fisher knows what to do, the team just needs to execute.
