It's looking like Matt better change his name to Mattes Mitčhellas.

I wonder what type of salary a year playing basketball in Lithuania would generate? I can’t imagine it would be more than 30 to 40 grand.

He played in France his first two years and the average salary in French leagues is $80K-$250K. European salaries for US players usually includes a place to live and a car. He then played in Turkey where the average salary is $250K-$500K and did well, especially in the playoffs. He's now moved up again, this time to the Euroleague where the average salary is $500K-$800K.
And although it's in a cold and somewhat isolated place compared to other European leagues, he's at a great place for basketball. Lithuania is the only country in Europe where basketball is the national sport, not soccer. They're crazy for basketball. His team is in Kaunas, a nice, modern city of around 400,000. Over 30% of the population speak English, and a higher % of young people. And the average cost of living in Kaunas is 54% lower than in the US. He's slowly working his way up the food chain and he's still only 25 years old.

If managed correctly with simple safe investments and proper money management he could really set himself up for a very comfortable start to life, with just a few more years of basketball at this current trajectory. I am not talking about retiring the Rancho Santa Fe or La Jolla Farms life playing pickle ball, eating Bonbons all day while looking over your fleet of race cars and yachts. This all could be a pretty nice start to life by just spending a couple years at SDSU and then playing the game of basketball for a few years. Congratulations to all the guys (and gals) that have helped build SDSU into a truly successful basketball program both on and off the court. In Coach Fisher and Coach Dutch we trust! Lets go Aztecs!

I only got to spend 30 seconds with the guy at the end of an extremely long day, but he made a fan out of me. If he's raking in decent bank while also getting truly unique European life experiences -- he's the kind of person you hope that happens for. Have fun over there, Matt!

Love to hear the stories about our former players. Matt was not naturally gifted with ridiculous talent. Dude worked his tail off and is reaping the benefits. Happy to hear he is making some good money and having lots of success over there.

That's Coach Fish & Coach Dutch. Plus I don't know if you or anyone else heard or remembers, but Matt lost a lot of weight one off season - and kept it off- and it really elevated his game. Also, IIRC he used to walk around campus handing out game tickets from a stack he kept in his pocket
