Are you sure that he is willing to take the NIL paycut? He has incredible stats. 18.5 PER, 1 block per game, 12.5 pts per game, 35% from 3, 74% from the line, all great numbers for a forward. I would think that he will get 200-500k in NIL somewhere else. But maybe he's willing to take the paycut to learn and grow under Dutcher and try to get drafted. Source on twitter is saying he’s visiting our campus this weekend. We have the funds now to give him $400k easily. I hope we never get to the point of paying large amounts for players. That's not the student athlete, college basketball that I've enjoyed watching over the last 60+ years.

Hard to retain players when other teams have no qualms in throwing 2 million dollars at a benchwarmer.

I assume there will eventually be some sort of cap to this "spending" as even the big schools will be getting less and less money directly from alums as more of the alum's money goes to NIL.

We pay each player a certain amount for NIL each year, based on their class (fr/soph/jr/senior/grad) and how much they contribute to the team. So to be clear (as far as I know) we aren't going to write a check for 400k for a transfer. I think Butler made the most NIL $$ last year, how much did he make?

I thought Butler made about $300K if you combined the NIL$ from SDSU and the actual local NIL$ he got after making "The SHOT".

I don't think I want to "get used to it." For almost my entire life I have preferred amateur sports over professional sports. As college sports devolve from student athletes to hired professionals my interest fades. I'd prefer we drop to a lower level, even D3, in order to keep the student athlete format. I know that's not going to happen.
I've renewed my football and basketball season tickets for next season. After that, I'm not sure at this point.

I know it's a losing battle, but I'm afraid the way NIL and the transfer rules are working that I'm going to lose my passion for college sports in general and the Aztecs in particular. Losing interest in the Aztecs is something I never imagined could ever happen. I haven't lost interest yet, but I can now imagine doing so.

Butler reportedly got paid $200,000 last year, and that wasn't enough to keep him. So with the new influx of NIL money from the Las Vegas tournament, etc. I can see the day where that happens much to my sorrow.

Sad to say....when it comes to money, for most people, no amount is EVER enough. We've opened up Pandora's box on "amateur athletics", just like we did long ago with pro sports.

So back to the topic- where is he going? Boone would be a nice fit for this team, allowing for a much easier start for Magoon and Compton to figure things out in the early part of the season and it also would free up JCJ and Heide to play more of just the 5 (allowing Stan to cut back on posting soooooo much)* * I know not happening anytime soon, always got your back Big Guy

So back to the topic- where is he going? Folks on twitter (including Zeigler) seem unconvinced his waiver to play an additional season with the NCAA will be approved. Las Vegas newspaper wrote an article with quotes from Kruger that they would try their best to keep him if he's eligible, but they're out of scholarships and recruited guys to play with the thought he's done. Seems like it could be awhile before we hear about the waiver approval/denial then go from there?

When the difference in $ between Pro and College sports gets harder and harder to discern and all thats left is education .....makes one wonder if there really is a difference especially in The SEC. A league with historically strong football schools and academically disinterested academic schools
