ESPN just flashed the graphic during their broadcast of today's UCLA-Alabama first round World Series game. That's not a bad invite to score. I think generally it's Murderers Row in Clearwater. Somebody up on program history better than what I've got would have to say whether this is their first Clearwater invite. Usually when I look at their schedule and the early-season tourney outside of SD, it's the Mary Nutter out in the Palm Springs area. And, obtw, Texas A&M is also on the invite list, for those who'd like to doff their cap to Mac Barbara... www.clearwaterinvitational.com/

I would be stoked if I were on the softball team to have that experience. Good for them!

Assuming it's the same event I've seen on TV a couple times, I think they have adjoining fields -- I think at least four.

This is a real head scratcher for me in the context of people complaining about wide spread Conferences and travel issues. The Clearwater Tourney may be prestigious and all that. But the University which cannot compete at that level because of money, is going to send a non-revenue sports Team clear across country to participate in said event.
Where is the money coming from ?
Everyone here seems excited for the squad. but those who in other forums have complained about kids not being able to focus on School work. It's to much travel for them. The G5's don't have the money for travel, lodging, and other expenses.
Yet, here we are celebrating what is really a poor financial decision and allocation of resources by the AD.
I just don't get it.

I just don't get it. I'd suggest you need to keep scratching your head -- and a little harder so you can "get it". "Can not compete at that level". What level are you referring to? They were one win away from the College World Series last year -- a tourney that only 8 teams make out of 286 schools, and chased it with another NCAA appearance this year. They fund the roadie the same way they fund any other non-rev sport, including... Men's tennis, men's soccer, men's golf, and, of course... baseball. Now if you were to have an argument against sending California taxpayer-backed teams to Florida based on the fact that you, for example, are a big fan of "The Kite Runner" and can't otherwise stand the neanderthal policies of the Sunshine State, then I suppose you can make that argument. But... Why don't we just let our HIGHLY-competitive Aztec women play some softball against other top-tier teams instead of waving budget red herrings at them -- especially when I'm seeing, via recent posts on here, that when it comes to the Athletic Department ledger, we are doing just fine? Maybe our gals can show the good people of Florida -- the one-time hang of Hemmingway -- what a book looks like while they are there...
