It should be interesting ... looking forward to digging into this year's squad during fall camp, but if this group can tackle and run the ball better than the past two seasons, that alone should make them better.

On an unrelated note to the lack of tackling, I believe that Matrix signed on to be the DL coach for Ohio. HC Brady Hoke - Retired OC Ryan Lindley - OFF Analyst SDSU DC Kurt Matrix - DL Coach Ohio SC Doug Deakin - OU Special Teams Analyst TE Savai’i Eselu - NA DL Bojay Filimoeatu - DL SJSU OL Mike Goff - NA S Kyle Hoke - Defensive Analyst TA&M WR - Jonathan Krause - OFFAnalyst Miami Dolphins CB - Demetrius Sumler (Retained) Interesting in where people landed and or didn’t.

I'm a firm believer in the various meeting rooms reflect the coaches. I remember when the Aztec lines were mean and nasty under Schmidt. A play vs ASU epitomized this. The entire line demolished ASU's front with 2-3 pancake blocks on that play as the RB went untouched for a TD.
We'd complain about the occasional late hit or unnecessary roughness penalties due to that mauler mentality. The Goff lines still got penalties but mostly false starts and holding calls.
It might take a year or two for him to get the guys developed to his performance standards but that attitude change can be instantaneous.

Rashaad Penny tore through that Sun Devil D two different times. 353 all-purpose yards and 3 TDs. That line opened some huge holes, as did the special teams blockers on his kick returns. www.espn.com/college-football/game/_/gameId/400935259/san-diego-st-arizona-st

Andre and I recorded the podcast last night and discussed Schmidt vs Goff. We both look forward to seeing what the differences are. The quote for the article that resonated most was "intent over everything." Great words to live by.
