Was pretty stoked on this hire until I saw this: Badrtalei and his wife, Drue, a former Long Beach State and Team USA water polo athlete, have three boys, Drayke (12), Drayden (9) and Dayne (5).
Drayke, Drayden and Dayne? I mean, look, I'm sure they're great kids... but what are we doing here.

I know I’ll have some people clutching their pearls by saying this, but I’ll take this dude over Hutty, and I like Hutty, but he’s a little past his “sell by” date as far as assistants go.

Whether it's right or wrong, you also have the potential for politics considering his wife is the WBB coach. Hopefully Coach Stacey has righted the ship, but you never know what might happen if things go south there again. NIL and the portal can make that happen in a hurry.

Speaking of the portal, our women's team is among the 5% of all teams who did not lose a single player to the portal. I'm with you in preferring this guy to hut on the men's side. Dave V brings everything Hut does, and this guy brings a slightly different view based on a very different resume. Really good developmental skills and a different offensive outlook. This does open up a spot at UCI & I wouldn't be shocked to see Hut as a candidate. Kept hoping Lavin would have a spot for him, and he still could in a consulting role. But UCI is close enough he could commute. If neither, I'd expect him to be an unpaid consultant to the Mrs.

Really good developmental skills and a different offensive outlook. Everything that Hut brings? That is really unfair to Coach Hutson, a remarkable recruiter and is really loved by his players. Acker was great recruiter but not on the Hutson level, this is nothing against Coach Dave, who i believe excels in breaking down tape, evaluation, and game planning.

Dave is an outstanding recruiter, a great defensive coach and is also beloved by his players. It's not demeaning Hut by saying Dave brings the same skillset. It is demeaning Dave to say he's only good at "breaking down tape, evaluation, and game planning". That may have been true 5-6 years ago. He's an excellent and well rounded coach today.

I doubt Dutcher hires any Coach that is not well rounded. some do certain things better than others, and really there is no 1 size fits all. people are different and so are coaches.
