Sites like these always seem to undervalue teams after they lose a great player or two (LeDee and, to a lesser extent, Butler). They did the same after we lost Kawhi, and after we lost Thames, yet we were still quite good.

I mean they did finish as the 5th seed last season....but the top 5 seed in the NCAA tournament. Of course the 3 teams that played the all the top 6 other MW teams finished 5, 6, 7 so there is that too.

I just don't see how you can have USU that high though. Last year was a great run but losing their coach and best two players (and also both schedule luck and late-game luck won't happen again).

In terms of the transfer market, we've made some solid acquisitions to address key positions. Our incoming freshmen are exceptional, and our coaching staff addition is impressive. Plus we've added $1,000,000 NIL MTE event and increased our OOC & SOS rankings. This is a seriously impressive off-season for Aztec Basketball.
Departures via Transfer: Micah Parrish, Lamont Butler, and Elijiah Saunders.
New Additions via Transfer: Welcome Nick Boyd, Wayne McKinney III, Jared Coleman-Jones, and a versatile SF/PF to be determined.
Graduates: Farewell to Jadeon LeDee, Jay Pal, Darrion Trammell, and Cade Alger.
Incoming Freshmen/Redshirts: Excited to welcome Magoon Gwath, Pharoah Compton, Taj Degourville, and David Majak.
Coaching Departure: We bid farewell to Chris Acker.
Coaching Addition: Thrilled to have Ryan Badrtalei join our coaching staff.
MTE Passed on: Acrisure Classic - Palm Springs
MTE Confirmed: Players Era Tournament (NIL $1MM Las Vegas event)

SDSU did lose 6 out of the 9 rotation players
thought DT also graduated and Alger hit the Portal after graduating
Forgot to mention Heide from the rotation but has Shay Johnson ?
Did have to play catch up in the Portal that cost SDSU some possible players
agree USU is a

Guess I may the outlier because these rankings don't surprise or bother me. I expect teams with more known quantities to be ranked higher than those with more newbies or question marks.
I think Boise will be the preseason favorite and they should be. They have 3 all MWC caliber players in Stanley, Degenhart & Cardenas. Nevada should be #2, given they return 3 starters + 2 of their top 3 reserves + arguably the best incoming transfer in Sanders, while adding another MWC starter in DuSell.
After that I think it's up in the air. USU returns 3 starters, so known commodities. UNLV & NM return their best player & a couple starters. We return 1 starter, counting Waters early season starts, and arguably have more unknowns than any of these 5 teams.
My only argument with this ranking is CSU above us, unless Clifford returns (which I think is unlikely).
We finished 5th last year & return the fewest starters of the bunch. Being ranked low shouldn't be unexpected. I think we end up top 3 when all is said & done, and in the dance. But as of mid May I'm not surprised or disappointed with low expectations. If we add Mag, if Boyd plays more like 2023 than 2024, and if JCJ is a lot more efficient than he was last year, then I think we're as good as anyone.

I have no problem at all with the meaningless early prediction. This team has a lot of question marks and players who have never played or are being counted on to take a big jump. If Dutcher does what he usually does, we will be grinding in the mix, but I honestly would not be surprised if we do take a step back this year and end up middle of the pack. We finished 5th last year with a very good team. This team is not likely to be as good. We'll see...

What's the scoop with Mawot Mag ? He is a Grad Transfer from Rutgers, who graduated Tuesday. He was scheduled to visit the Mesa on Wednesday.

there was an article the other day that he has narrowed his list to 4 or 5 teams and SDSU is one of them along with USC - Clemson - BYU - Southern Mississippi
There were no comments from him about his visit to SDSU

"Great" will get 2X as much as the Aztecs will get from being in the NIL Tournament - and that's just one player. Guess they've gotta start somewhere, though. And anything - even something seemingly as small as $1M is these days - helps. Keep on donating. Who's old enough to remember the not so distant past when becoming a millionaire was a goal? Now, a million dollars is chump change.

Graduated Rutgers Tuesday, arrived in San Diego Wednesday, hearing that the visit "went well", he is following Miles Byrd, Nick Boyd and Coach Dave V on IG. Byrd looks like the SDSU welcoming committee. The press has Mawot Mag is the leading choice to round out the roster, Mag was seen wearing an SDSU sweatshirt leaving campus.

Who on the roster would be a better choice? He's very enthusiastic, can speak about being able to improve his game and the chance to play early in his career. Great choice for the welcoming committee. Nice to also have a recent transfer recruit, Boyd, to talk about why he made the decision. Love this staff, so smart.

In a recently bygone era, that would be positive news.. In this era, he's interested until offered a bigger check.
