And I am eagerly waiting for Gwynn's replacement as Coach. I do not see that ever happening till Tony wants to step down.

I want to see what Tony can do with a healthy team next year. If we can stay healthy, we should have a good team next year.

Stras is a real SD kid that represents the 619.
Aztec Gear - check Padre Gear - check
Calls State "State" - check
He has more than earned the right to put 619 across his eye black. JMO.

We have already seen what he can do with a healthy team Yeah there's always a new excuse ever year, or so it seems. Healthy or not, a common denominator for each of his teams is poor fundamentals. I've seen enough, but like Nick Canepa told me once, it's tough to fire the coach you named the ball field after.

The Aztecs are in a real bad situation here.
Firing a local legend would be a PR nightmare.
I don't think he will ever step down.

The Aztecs are in a real bad situation here. Firing a local legend would be a PR nightmare. I don't think he will ever step down. He might well step down, but only if his finances allow for it. I told you guys back in the day that only a selfish guy would publicly campaign for a job knowing that by doing so he was guaranteeing himself that he'd be hired. Ask his former peers how he was regarded in the clubhouse. More important (and more relevant today), watch his demeanor in the Aztec dugout. I've never seen a more disengaged coach in my life. I have to disagree with this John. -I don't think his salary has anything to do with his coaching right now, so I can't imagine his finances having anything to do with him stepping down. -As for his peers dogging him in the clubhouse? Are you talking about the respectful Jack Clark? Those guys were jealous of Tony Gwynns popularity. -I also am not impressed with his coaching so far. I have moved to the middle on this issue.

Didn't the guy whose son is on the team post that the team couldn't protest a missed call on a homerun because tony was dropping a deuce? That sort of says it all about is 'engagement'

If it was anyone else coaching, they would have been canned 2-3 years ago. The longer he stays around, the more I resent him. Next time, don't name anything after anyone until they're buried.

It is frustrating to see the little school on the hill in the NCAA's again while we have a losing record.
