The team played a tough schedule this year. They are battle tested so I expect to come out of this region. All this girls know each other almost all of them are from Southern California for teams such as UCLA, GCU, and SDSU. Most have played on the same travel team. There is also a few on the VA tech team. We are no longer a cinderella team so all this programs will play us hard.

Is it just me or does it seem like we play UCLA every time? Not surprising as they try and keep the teams as regional as possible, and UCLA is almost always a Top 16 ranked team garnering home field for the first round.

Is it just me or does it seem like we play UCLA every time? I did a quick google search and was stunned at the results: The Bruins are among the most decorated programs in NCAA softball, leading all schools in NCAA championships with 12, 13 overall Women's College World Series championships, championship game appearances with 22, WCWS appearances with 29, and NCAA Tournament wins with 187. I did not realize how very successful they have been. So, of course, it seems only natural that they would get to host regionals when ranked in the top 10. So what a shocker for them to have an upstart like us knock them out of the tourney last year. Yet; we have been there and I think we do expect to win so ----- Go Aztecs!

We won the UCLA regional last year, but we did not knock them out. In fact we didn’t play them. We won the 2-3 seed game. They lost the 1-4 seed game. Fell in to the loser’s bracket and then lost to the team we had beaten. I don’t remember if we were the 2 or the 3 seed last year but UCLA going 0-2 in the regional was one of the biggest upsets in tournament history. Now that the SEC and Oklahoma have become the center of softball power it’s easy to forget that UCLA and Arizona dominated the first 30 years of NCAA softball like no other teams in any other major sport ( not counting skiing or bowling etc.). I really love SDSU softball but UCLA and Virginia Tech are really good teams and GCU is no slouch. Go Aztecs.

Having been to that stadium up in UCLA, and just looking at the amount of money the SEC and Big 12 have poured into their sparkling new stadiums, it's easy to see why the balance of power has shifted eastward from the dominance that was the Bruins. Though I'm sure Coach Stacey would raise an eyebrow at my obvious rose-tinted view, I think SDSU's stadium is a nicer hang than the Bruins' field at this point. No denying it does have a mountain of softball history, though.

My money will be on Oklahoma to repeat. Good guess. They are even better than Alabama Football at their height. Almost every single girl from Oklahoma is from Orange County or surrounding area. They either play for Mike Stich (OC Batbuster) or Marty Tyson (Corona Angels).

Im just happy that a lot of the girls that went else where came back to SDSU under our current coach. She is well respected and has a lot of her UCLA teammates that live here locally. This year local 2027 class in San Diego has a lot of studs. Im hoping she can get 1 or two of those girls.
