Is/will this mess matriculate to high school now or in the immediate future? Where will it stop? Pop Warner, little league, mighty mites soccer...... It is already in High School, and has been for a while. I know plenty of very good high school football coaches who win lots of games/titles but have players leaving their school in droves now with the open transfer rules. Most of them going to other public schools, though the bigger privates draw a lot as well. Though it is not NIL money that pulls kids, its selling mom and dad on getting their kid a scholarship. I have seen it many times, coaches poaching players from another school (or middle schoolers coming up), by bragging to mom and dad about their college connections and how they can get Lil Johnny a scholarship (which is mostly a load of crock and putting the cart before the horse). But parents buy it hook-line-and-sinker.

I have no problem - zero - with a student athlete benefitting directly form the use of his or her name, image, and/or likeness. But the good faith intent of NIL has been abused more than a redheaded step child in an orphanage in a 19th century New York slum. This is irrevocably, irreversibly, and irreparably destroying everything that has made college athletics such a pleasure to be passionate about over many, many years. Thank you NCAA and greedyAF P(oS)5 programs who are collectively responsible. God forbid a non-anointed school compete on anything even remotely resembling an even footing.
You know, paying dues used to be an integral part of the calculus for a student athlete. As was the risk-reward of pursuing a potential career in a profession with a high rate of attrition due to injury. Yet who amongst us wouldn't trade the risk of injury for a legitimate shot of making tens of millions of dollars in a relatively short timeframe playing a f*cking game?
And one of the primary factors in this equation has always been the reward of receiving a free education for the majority of amateur athletes who's sports careers will not continue beyond the college level. Something many of us go into debt to pursue and achieve.
This system has existed in harmony and in perpetuity ad nauseam. Yes, the governing body (NCAA) has benefitted to an insane degree from this system. But ffs if I'm hired by an employer for an agreed-upon amount of fixed compensation in the role of product designer and in said role design a product that makes boatload of money for my employer, I have simply done my job, and there ends the matter.
I know I am perceived as increasingly anachronistic regarding my views on amateur athlete compensation, but I also know I am far from alone in my perception.
tl;dr: F*ck me running.

Bring back the 1 year transfer rule.
Implement a tier system for the players. All freshmen start at the lowest tier.
Tier 1- Probable 1st round picks, AA level talent. Tier 2- Potential professional, all league candidates, talented upperclassmen. Tier 3- Spot starters, 2nd or 3rd team depth chart. Tier 4- All incoming freshman/practice squad players.
Tiers are determined by staff, with targeted numbers for each tier.
Just a thought. I’m sure the coaching staffs would approve.

the pendulum has been swinging toward the players and will be very difficult to change
could the NCAA really make sure that players are on track to graduate before they allow the transfers - sure wonder how Chad Baker made it out to SDSU ?

Can't even imagine the emotional and quasi-legal pandemonium that would ensue when a subjective determination of a player's financially-compensated skill set would determine how big of a bag of money they would get. It would make "Gladiator" look like a Disney cartoon.

Interesting take. I was just thinking yesterday how Dutcher has kind of had a "money all" approach to this program. but NIL has now destroyed - or entered irrelevant- most of that. So I then was thinking he HAS TO make some changes to how we play so we can still be very good... I thought he needs to address the offense and make some legit changes on that end of the court ti find other ways to continue to be good. Yeah, it's hard to build that elite defense with so much turnover year to year. It can still be a big part of our identity, but we might need to get better on offense. Numerous quotes from players saying they had tired legs. Hence, missing open three's. Perhaps the S&C program needs to improve ?

Even Nick Saban has had enough. And he gets the pick of the litter. Kids today feel like they deserve a golden ticket just because they can play some ball. Yes, they deserve some compensation because they are the product. They are in for a rude awakening when their eligibility expires.Disagree. I think the players are fully aware of the reality of their draft stock, hencewhy they're trying to cash in now while they still have a domestic playing career. Agree to disagree. Roughly half the kids in the portal will not get picked up. Lost Scholarship oportunities because they believed they could find something better. JMO

Private Schools literally recruit the best players and offer incentives for the parents to send them there. Jr sports have issues with coaches putting together teams of the oldest players and even falsifying birth certificates. The Little League World Series, etc. There is big money involved.

Just wait until arbitration is introduced with player agents spewing out stats to increase their clients' salaries.

I am glad Parrish is gone, honestly his play was abysmal last season and I think Ohio State is going to have buyer's remorse.
As far as Butler, not going to hate on him but looking forward to seeing guards who can make shots and FT's as he shot enough bricks to build a second Viejas.
